I started watching this movie on Netflix.  I couldn't get more than 20m into it before I gave up and moved on to something else.   The cast looked good but the story sucks. Only for fans of the computer game.

No Hungarian but probably it's elsewhere too.

I also saw Expendables 4 on Netflix.

It's daft as usual and the stars look ancient.

They have to have helpers to do the heavy lifting.

I'm a bit short of shows to watch.

I'm enjoying this show.  Plenty of good actors in it, most of them taking the mickey out of themselves.

Also interesting to see how shows are actually made and what terms like "key grip" mean.

Our daughter was an extra in FBI International.   She was a hostage in the theatre kidnapping episode.

Could be worth a look. This is an Italian spin off.

I wasn't impressed by the US Citadel series - I didn't like the female lead in that show.

Update:  I started watching this and lasted 5 minutes. I realised I couldn't be bothered investing time in the story.

I really do not know if I should go to see this at the cinema.

Released here in HU 28 October 2024.

I'm going to check it out.

I read on Wikipedia this movie was a long time coming and had many stars attached to it, including Jason Statham.

It doesn't seem to be on our Netflix.

Marilyn Tassy

No Netflix watching here for awhile now.

Might be nice to sign up as they probably have allot there  now I have not seen.

Lately I have been watching short true life crimes from the past. some going back to the UK in the 1700s.

No funny business back then it was off with their heads if found guilty and in short order as well.

Show on U tube is called, Brief Case, a play on words.

Short 15 or 20 mins clips about the crimes.

One was rather interesting that I watched a few nights ago.

They made a movie out of it in 1960 staring Bridget Bardot.

It was bedtime when I found the film so will check it out another time.

The title is: La Verite, in French with English subtitles.

La Veritie - the Truth. From Wikipedia, that movie production was one catastrophe after the other. I'm going to put it on my list. Good choice.

I'm must be at the end of my run of old movies on Netflix. This afternoon's movie is a mafia crime caper with Michael Caine and dates from 1978. It's called Silver Bears. I like Michael Caine. Not a lot of people know that.

The other oddity is that Jay Leno is in it. I never knew he was an actor in the movies. I know he likes cars and he was showing off his knowledge a bit.

Update: I've obtained La Verite starring Bardot and I'm going to be watching it as my evening movie. I'm trying to get Mrs F and my art student HU daughter on the job as well.

Marilyn Tassy

I have not been in the mood to read subtitles but will check out that movie soon.

I think tonight I may look into a new documentary on U tube about one of Brian Jones children;

His daughter.

Not sure how many girls he had maybe 2, the other 3 or 4 were boys.

One was adopted by The folk singer Donovan. His wife was Brian,s GF and had Brian,s son.

Brain was wild, had children out of wedlock in his teens, way before his rock days.

He talked several of his GFs into naming their sons Julian, sort of strange.

Nice to see Tom Selleck had an acting life after his Magnum PI show.

Been watching this one. I found some of the characters just so unsympathetic, I nearly stopped watching. By the end of ep. 2 one of the horrible characters was bumped off. Thank God. Couple of others need to go too. There's a solid cast so that's one good thing but what they are doing with it is hard to fathom.

I've just watched ep 3 and it's likely to win a bad sex in the movies award. It's got some truly atrociously bad acting, poor direction and terrible music scenes in it. My mind wandered and I looked at my phone. I decided want the main characters to be offed by hit men or kidnapped by aliens. Anything to inject some life into it.

What is surprising is Kevin Kline. He's remarkably good at doing a British accent. Only very occasionally it drops a bit but you'd have to be listening for it.

They say truth is stranger than fiction. Donovan was (apparently) a really nice guy. Don't know for sure.

My ex-wife used to work in a library and there were a couple of weird middle-aged guys who came in a few times a week. Dishevelled and slightly incoherent, they were brothers and had separate library cards but lived at the same address.

The weirdest thing about them is that they were both called Bernard.

That's just inexplicable.

I gather Donovan is still alive.

He is a throw back. Last night I watched a documentary about Marianne Faithful.

Time was not kind to her.Rough living.

The 2 Bernard,s. How strange, I thought it was weird for my aunt to name her boys, Ronald and Donald but 2 Bernard,s takes the cake!

Ronald and Donald sounds like a McDonald's themed duo.   2 x Bernards is obviously twice as good as 1 x Bernard.  It's like a 2 for one offer.  Bargain!

Marianne Faithfull seems to be still working at 77 which surprised me.   And Petula Clark is still going as well at 91.  Dusty Springfield didn't make it, passing at 59.

Even Brigitte Bardot is 90 and still around.  Quite surprising Bardot managed to survive.  I saw one of the featurettes on Bardot which comes with La Verite.  She sounded like she was quite a volatile person but also confident enough to be quite honest in the interview. The paparazzi wouldn't leave her alone and her friends betrayed her.   But she survived and seems to have prospered.

Raft of new shows/seasons coming in November:

Silo - sci-fi Season 2 with Rebecca Ferguson

Yellowstone - Season 5 Part II by Taylor Sheridan, starring Kevin Costner (final season)

Landman - another Taylor Sheridan effort, this time about oil with Billy Bob Thornton (always good) and others

Dune: Prophecy - sci-fi TV series after the book/movies Dune - good cast of solid actors like Olivia Williams and slightly bonkers Travis Fimmel.

Day of the Jackal - TV series of the book/mile with Eddie Redmayne and Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist)

Yes we have reached almost winter and the movie watching season has begun.

I rarely go to the cinema but have a few movie channels, Netflix and u tube at home.

The last time I went to Arena mall, the place was too cold for me and I missed getting up when I wanted to to fix another drink  etc etc .

I also have lots of DVDs. Old fashioned I know. My family sent me all their old ones and last time I was in the UK oxfam charity shops had a deal on , four for pound so I found some brand new BBC box sets there.

If the Internet ever goes down I will watch a few.

Bardot like Doris Day devoted their golden years to animal projects.

Marianne Faithful seems more like a free spirit then Mick does.

I have seen some recent interviews of her.Smart lady even though she made allot of mistakes in her past.

I forget the name of the film she was in from over a decade ago.

She played an old women in need of money so she got a job in a house of ill repute. More like a hole in the wall sort of house! Lets just say she was good with her hands!!! YIkes!!

Not a role many actresses would take. Hope it was an act at least!!

Not like Halley Berry and good ol Billy Bob in The Monsters Ball. Heard it was real live action in that one!

Marilyn Tassy

I watched a  sweet film a few nights back; Had Albert Finney in it.

A Rather English Marriage. Bitter sweet film.

I asked my husband to check it out. He did, all he could say is he did not get it and WTH 2 old men dancing together? Different cultures I suppose, not sure they would ever make a film in Hungary with two old men dancing cheek to cheek.

Marilyn Tassy

Probably everyone already knows that Marianne Faithful,s mother was of Austrian/ Hungarian nobility.

Her mom was a HU countess and her father was a British spy.

I wonder if she got her Hungarian passport?

Jagger's Mum was from Australia.  No idea if he's got an Australian passport.

The film you're looking for is.  Never seen it but it sounds like it's worth seeing.

The Monster's Ball is a good movie and Billy Bob and Halley really make a decent job of it.

He's an odd ball kind of guy.  Being married to Angelina Jolie probably says much about him.... and her.

I'm watching Goliath (TV) show with Billy Bob in it.  He's probably one of the greatest actors of our times.

Thanks for the tip. I may do a double take on Irina Palm.

Sort of coming back to mind, she needed funds for her handicapped grandson and could make enough for his care by doing the old hand jive!!

Sorry, my way of expressing myself is sometimes not exactly fitting.

Reminds me of how my BFF Lisa and I would communicate, off the hook at times!

Yes, Marianne is royalty. I actually liked her not has popular song, This Little Bird instead of When Tear go By.

Sorry to say, her voice is shot now but she still sings. I am not sure I could sit though an hour of her singing these days. Chain smoking did her in.

Hand Jive - It's a good way of describing the character's activities.  We sometimes call it a Happy Ending!

Apparently Marianne was on a TV show called "Who Do You Think You Are?" in the UK where her origins were explored.  Obviously done by professionals but with her being engaged on it.  I've not seen it but I expect it can be had somewhere online.

Smoking, bah, humbug.  I used to do it but I was never a convinced smoker so I gave up that perhaps 25 years ago and the booze went perhaps 5 years ago.   I'm not taking drugs either.  Makes me wonder what vices I could indulge in.

I was planning to go to the movies this week to see The Apprentice.

But it just occurred to me that the movie The Apprentice about the Teflon Don's early life might be  impossible to see post-Wednesday/post-election.

Either he'll lose and everyone will move on from that movie or he'll win and the movie will get a massive boost and an extended run.   If lose, it could end up on a streaming service.

Assuming the former, I wonder how long it will be before he fades from fame if he loses. Will we know who he is by this time next year?

I have seen the trailer.

I'm the same as you.  I just don't know if I should watch it or not.   We know who Trump is so do we need to watch a movie to confirm what we already know?   I've heard reviews and they say you'll learn nothing new.

Mrs F and I were discussing what the attitude was to Hitler post-WW2.   Were there biography type movies back then? I suppose there were, even then, while he was alive.  I'm thinking of the Chaplin movie, The Great Dictator, made in 1940.

There's a movie about Stalin made in the 1980s that was banned but don't know much about that one.

Marilyn Tassy

Watched a documentary awhile ago called/ Hitlers Children.  Interesting how these children of forced pregnancy were later shunned by society. SS troops having children with random women to produce the so called; master race, cough, cough!

Charlie Chapman lived a very interesting life; He and his younger brother grew up in a work house because their mother was locked away with mental issues.

He helped his brother once he reached fame and brought his mom to the US to care for her.

Mad respect for that, although he did like the very young ladies.

fluffy2560

We saw The Apprentice last night - the Donald Trump movie.

It's hardly flattering but it's not that bad either and won't change anyone's perception of him.

It does show how Roy Cohn, his mentor, turned him into the person he is that we see now.  Basically Cohn turned him into a kind of monster - a very uncompassionate person.

But the movie glosses over quite a lot.

It's a bit of a shame as there could be a DJT 2nd movie as a continuation.  But we're unlikely to see it though before his next Presidential term is up.   That movie would likely be more sensationalist as there's been a lot more going on since the period of The Apprentice.

There's a 2nd TV series of Wolf Hall.

The poster above is for the theatre production as there are no usable links to the TV show.   The 1st season was made in 2015 and extremely well made.

Once again, Mark Rylance returns to the role of Thomas Cromwell.

It's typical of the kind of period drama that the BBC excels in. It's possible to get episodes by download for those so inclined.

Saw this ages ago, great film.

Peter O ,Toole is a good actor.

Many moons ago my crazy sister got an invite to the Academy Awards; She and her date sat about 2 rows ahead of Peter O,Toole. IDK, she always had some sort of invite to all sorts off shows and events.

Once she even scored 2 FREE pass tickets to see the Rolling Stones in LA.

She took me with her. Not sure, maybe their 81 or 82 tour? It was great for free, had access to the press room where they had free food and drinks.

Lately I have been slumming watching details about the Diddy thing.

Maybe all of Hollywood will be going down soon?

If that happens we all will be revisiting older good movies;

Rolling Stones eh?  Mick's well into his 80s now.  I wonder how long he can go on.

Peter O'Toole was a great actor and quite a party-person.  I think him and Richard Harris, both somewhat Irishmen were quite bonkers.  Like Oliver Reed - hell raiser (but English).

I do enjoy these older films, especially those filmed on that rich technicolor type film.

Harris was quite odd, he appeared in the movie Cromwell which was about Oliver Cromwell, former Lord Protector of England (effectively England was a Republic then) and responsible for a lot of violence in Ireland.  I find it strange that an Irishman played a role of the puritan oppressor who brutalised people in Ireland.  Must have done it for the money.

Diddy is just a ridiculous figure but his alleged wrongdoing is certainly not funny.

Mind you I nearly choked on my tea this morning hearing Matt Gaetz is going to be Attorney General in Trump's new government.   He seems to be populating his Cabinet with the worst people you could ever imagine.  It's like a tragic comedy.  People should be careful what they wish for.   Maybe Biden should resign and let Kamala have a short go in the driving seat.
