Films to watch & to look out for
Maybe they gave Deans horse a few belts to sway with Dean?I had such a crush on Clint Eastwood as a little girl .His Rawhide days of being Rowdy Yates. So strange how old Hollywood would cast a white European lady as a full blooded native American;A bit of grease paint and they were good to go.One reason I enjoyed seeing Dancing with Wolves, they used real natives Americans. - @Marilyn Tassy
If you mean Audrey Hepburn, she was was indeed European. She had a British (father) and Dutch (mother). And not American native or otherwise. She was quite the international child. I had a bit of a crush on her. I thought her very elegant. But she had a horrible life during the war in Arnhem, experiencing starvation and sickness that nearly did her in. Might explain why she was so stick insect thin.
My Audie Murphy film was full of people hamming it up as natives with obvious body paint. And some of the dialogue was plain racist and sexist. Interestingly, part of the plot involved the authorities in the film courts-martialling the US Cavalry officer who massacred the Indians living peacefully on their reservation. So on one side, Audie was fighting the Indians but meanwhile the authorities were jailing the real perps. And during all the shenanigans of the cursory courts-martial, there was not a single Indian giving evidence. The victors do indeed write their version of history.
I've never actually seen Dancing with Wolves. That could be a good movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
As for Clint, he's everyone's hero. Good looking dude for the ladies and bad ass tough guy for the lads. Universal appeal. And fantastically successful. And quite the womanizer. I'm afraid he's not going to be around too much longer. He's way into his 90s. Now we've mentioned him, if our run of bad luck continues, maybe with a month, he'll be gone like Hackman. - @fluffy2560
You defo should check out Dancing with Wolves. I think Wesley Studi is a good actor, very strong persence about him.
Audrey Hepburn was a anorexic, her ballet studies and all;
Yes, she had a hard time during the war but she carried on the rest of her life with an eating disorder. Sadly she passed from the same horrible illness as my brother, colon cancer.
I knew a few girls in my HS with eating disorders; I also played with it but when I was a run away on my own, I decided to eat a meal when ever I could. Maybe eating disorders are an illness of the privileged? IDK.Â

I think Audrey H did look anorexic.  Terrible what Hollywood to her. I suppose it was the studios. If it was today, she would have sued their socks off for abuse. And Audrey didn't have to put up with social media.Â
When  you're in the military and out in the field, you have to grab whatever you can whenever you can. A pause in whatever you're doing, eat a biscuit, drink some water. You burn huge amounts of calories when running about. Maybe double or more the average amounts.  It's just makes you ravenous. After a trip on say an exercise, all you want to do is sleep. I slept for about 2 days after one exercise. I was shattered.
- saw this on Netflix. It's like Tom Hank's Cast Away but in a hi-tech apartment. Well worth a look.
Adolescence on Netflix - a child is accused of murder. There are only 4 episodes.
This is quite well done. One of the most interesting and unusual production feature is that each episode is filmed as one single shot with the camera moving rapidly by following the story as it flows between characters. It's amazing really they managed to do it like that. In some ways it's a bit like watching a play. If there are joins or edits, they are really hard to see, maybe only one I thought might be an edit. There might have been a mistake or two but the cast recovered really well.
A key element of the story is the role of social media. It's come as a revelation. My son is 15 and he spends a lot of time on his PC. We have no idea what he's doing. I am considering introducing restrictions now as the harm it could be doing is incalculable.- @fluffy2560
This is now being discussed whether it should be shown in schools in the UK and discussed about it.
Cleaner
When a group of radical activists take over an energy company's annual gala, seizing 300 hostages, suspended 50 storeys up on the outside of the building must save those trapped inside, including her younger brother.
This is something to look out for.

I can see that could be useful. Â
Anyway, I think the TV show would be really useful in school.Â
Even the writer has been saying things about it ().Ìý
Lots to think about. Certainly stirred me to action.

Looks good! Thanks for the tip!Â
Nice to see a British drama getting the blockbuster style treatment.Â
I expect everyone will think of this as a British Die Hard.Â

Yeah, it does have that feeling British Die Hard. But I do like Daisy Ridley. She was in Young Woman and the Sea.
She is also the Arnold Ridley great-niece. (Private Godfrey, from Dad's Army.)

Oh yes, Daisy Ridley came on my radar from the Star Wars franchise. Â
I didn't know she was related to Arnold Ridley so interesting bit of trivia.
I did like Dad's Army.Â
German Officer: What's your name?
Manwaring: Don't tell him Pike!
I watched this movie yesterday:
Very routine Western but one of the odd stories is the leading lady, Susan Cabot was killed by her son. Apparently she had some mental illness and awoke in a maniacal stupor and tried to kill her son. He in turn beat her to death with a weight lifting bar.  An odd quirk was that Cabot's son - who suffered from dwarfism - was charged with murder and ended up on remand for 2.5 years and was plea bargained down to a lesser manslaughter charge with a sentence of 3 years, then released on probation as he had served enough time.  Bit of a strange story.

A declassified government memo in 2018 revealed that Cabot was invited by the CIA to a party with King Hussein of Jordan, who was in Los Angeles on a trip and desired female company. While she did not necessarily wish to accomplish the CIA goal of "go to bed with him", she went to the party and evidently found him charming. Cabot soon had a seven-year affair with King Hussein of Jordan (which the CIA was aware of) and their only child, Timothy Scott, was born out of wedlock in 1964. She received $1500 in monthly support from Hussein. In 1968, she married her second husband Michael Roman with whom she raised Timothy, before again divorcing in 1983.

Oooo....that's really good gossip! Have you got a link on that? Â
I do find this kind of background story very interesting indeed. It just shows you that still (or slightly choppy) waters run deep. I could not have imagined a CIA angle. I can see Cabot as quite a good agent. She was very attractive, a good actor and clearly had plenty of smarts. Mata Hari comes to mind.
Of course the current King of Jordan is half-British. Quite a bed of intrigue!

It's from her Wikipedia page.

Oh I didn't read that. Yes, it was in there. Interesting story.  The newspaper reports are interesting on the subject. Looks like Susan Cabot was clear enough in her mind to make money - property and vintage cars.  And of course income from Jordan.
There's another angle. It seems Mossad may also have been involved in the honey trap with Cabot (who had a Jewish background) to entrap King Hussein. Just bizarre!
I wonder if the Jordanian royal family ever acknowledge formally their US family member. Half brother to the current king. I wonder what happened to Cabot and Hussein's son - there's a link to FindAGrave but it's unclear if all the pictures and details are correct.
Saw this show "The Breakthrough" last night on Netflix - binged all 4 episodes. Slow moving Swedish detectives. I liked it but it's really pedestrian.  Each episode is quite short, so it doesn't take a lot of time to see it all.
New show - - on Apple TV or a download near you. I watched the trailer and there's a lot of shouting and wise cracking in it.Â
