The question I have, are there title companies in Colombia? if not how does one search the deed for leans, and back taxes?

First, you should use the services of a lawyer or company that specializes in bienes raices or inmobiliaria.

It's not a good idea to buy right away - you should wait at least a year, and live in a property for that long, before you can be sure it is the right property.

The first step is getting the Certificado de Tradici贸n y Libertad.聽 It is cheap but it is only the first step, and again, it is best to use a lawyer to do all the legwork and investigation.

If you do not have a good command of Spanish you are open to misunderstandings which may turn out to be costly or even disastrous.
