Challenges of Child Support Enforcement in Dubai

Margarita Petrovna

Hello,

I am reaching out to this community seeking practical help in a difficult situation. I am a Russian woman, and my ex-husband, also Russian, has created significant difficulties for me and our two daughters. He began a relationship with a married woman at work, which led to our divorce. Since then, he has been hostile and uncooperative, even threatening not to pay child support.

Despite his threats, I sought legal assistance in Russia and successfully obtained a court order for child support. However, he lives in Dubai and refuses to comply with this decision, openly mocking the court's ruling. My daughters need psychological support and stability, but he ignores his obligations and hides his true income. Despite being asked to do so, he provides no support to the children.

I am unsure of my next steps. I know where he works, and I wonder if legal action in the United Arab Emirates can be effective. I would appreciate any practical advice or guidance.

Legal action in the UAE can be effective however you will have to file a case in the UAE.   And that may turn out to be an expensive proposition.

@XTang I am thinking of maybe writing to his colleagues. I know most of them are Indian, as was the other woman, but how would they react? Would it even change anything for him? I want him to be ashamed, for them to not want anything to do with him. Maybe there is somewhere I could write about, explicitly naming him so that people would know what kind of person he is?

Speaking to his colleagues may or may not lead to anything concrete.  Just general embarrassment.  And no, there isn't anywhere you can write anything.   Also be aware that UAE has strict slander laws so don't do anything that can cause problems for you, should you decide to visit UAE in the future.
