Moving to Ecuador, air freighting a small crate

Hanabe101

I live in Warrnambool (3280), Victoria, Australia, about 4 to 4 1/2 hours from Melbourne and Melbourne airport respectively. I have visited Ecuador before, and am looking to move there now to Vilcabamba in about a year.  What is the best way to send perhaps a small crate (say 4’ x 4’ x 4’, and 150?? kg) of "personal" favorite things - carpet, books, a few household favorites and items that might be fragile?

a.    Is a detailed description of items in Spanish required?

b. Is it best to air freight this?

c.    Who makes the crate?

d.    Is there someone who can handle this from door to door? Potentially I could look into having a crate built, and packed, ready to pick up.

e.    Any rough idea of how much it might cost of air freighting this amount?

f. How do you determine the weight of the crate, or even of everything in it? I only have a small scale that is not very accurate.

I would appreciate your thoughts, experiences on how this is or could be done.

Anyone moving to Ecuador should consider living in Cumbaya rather than Cuenca or Quito. Nicer, safer, modern, cheaper, many other expats, and Cumbaya is lower in altitude than Cuenca. All the amenities of the capital city is just a 15 minute drive away or half hour in bus.
