Hi gents,

I am a Mauritian citizen, married with a French citizen since 2018 in France and have 2 childrens.I am plann8ng to come back to Mauritius with my wife and kids to live there.

I need to register my wedding as well my kids in Mauritius as they are also a Mauritian subject since am Mauritian.

I would like to know if my wife need a return ticket.Since we coming to settle down in Mauritius.

Your advice are welcome.

Regards,

Vanessa

I married my wife in France in May 2023, and landed in Mauritius in July 2023 without a return ticket. Started on tourism via, and harshly managed to finally get my Spouse temporary (2 years) residence permit, after 7 months of struggle. Had I known all the issues our French marriage would raise here in Mauritius, I would have delayed and married her on the island.

But I see that you married your wife before the 8th of March 2019, so you may have less troubles than me for Residency and work permit.

However, you may have to proove that your French Citizen Spouse was single at the time of your marriage. That is what I have been asked to "proove". As if France allowed polygamie, or if having been PACSed since 2015, having bought a flat together, and having two kids was not a solid proof by itself.

  • PART III – NON-CITIZEN RESIDENTS OF MAURITIUS
  • Sub-Part II – Permits to Reside in Mauritius
  • Section A – Temporary Residence Permit
  • 7. Eligibility for temporary residence permit
  • (4) Where the marriage between a non-citizen and a citizen is celebrated outside Mauritius, no application for a temporary residence permit shall be entertained unless the non-citizen submits –
  • (a) his marriage certificate certifying that he is civilly married to his citizen spouse; and
  • (b) an affidavit or any other document, duly sworn or affirmed by him before a Court of law in his country of residence, attesting that, on the date of his marriage to the citizen, he is not married to any other person.

I personnally had to contact my "Notaire" to have her write an email saying that I was single before my marriage. I managed to submit my Spouse permit application file after 6 appointments with the Mauritian Immigration Authorities and 2 appointments with the French Ambassy (those 2 were a total waste of time AND MONEY btw). I wish you better luck than me !
