Needing permanent address in India

sanjylee

Hi there,

Mine is a bit of a unique situation.

I'm living in Australia and am planning a 6month trip within India and other countries.

The plan is to purchase a rickshaw brand new and drive it through India and all the way across to Turkey.

I've been in contact with a company who can help me purchase and fit out the vehicle however I need a permanent address in India to be able to do so.

To be able to take the vehicle out of the country I also need to have Copy of Aadhar Card & PAN Card.

Not exactly sure what these are or how to obtain them.

Is there anyone here who might have some suggestions on how I could obtain these.

The plan is to finalise purchase of the rickshaw within a week of arriving into India so would preferably like to have as much organised in advance as possible.

Thanks in advance for any advice possible.

PAN card you can get only if you are on employment visa and work in Indian company in India.

Aadhar is Indian citizen and/or resident ID card, so no way to get it too.

Your  rickshaw run  plan might work only inside India. Theoretically to cross borders you need also Carnet de passage. In your situation you can buy anything, but you can not register. All tourists (with tourist visa) who buy vehicles here have papers on hand, but they drive/ride with unregistered 4/2-wheelers.

@sanjylee ALso rickshaws are not legal to ride between cities and states etc. Well, but people do. Bakshish always turn green light in most situations.

@snorke hey

Thanks for replying and info. I appreciate.

Yes the PAN and Aadhar Card are for carnet passage as I'd already enquired for this as well.

I'm interested in what you said about not being permitted to travel between some cities on rickshaw though.

Do you mean as in, can't take them on the highways? I can imagine they'd be a nuisance due to low km/hr.

See, the problem is that traffic rules book in India theoretically exist, but nobody, i repeat - nobody saw it in his/her life. So, i got this info from internet, but i don't know original source. Probably it was in some "rickshaw run" forum or video. I think it was video - Cops stopped them on the way several times and told it, but team was lucky and cops always let them go with or without bribe. So, i do not really know where it can go. I see rickshaw on 6 line highways and it is most common public transportation between villages. One is for sure on 6-8 lines expressways 2 and 3-wheelers not allowed.

I suggest to find some 'rickshaw run' forum and ask there.

PS - when i will be a millionaire, I will buy 3-wheeler

While the Aadhar Card & PAN Card may permit you to take the vehicle out of the country, what impediments must you overcome to import the vehicle into the countries along your route?

I'm not in India, but I can tell you we have difficulty taking motorbikes/cars out of Vietnam and then into Laos and/or Cambodia. You don't want to get stopped at the India-Pakistan (or another) border and be turned away.

Have you researched import regulations to neighbouring countries?  Something to consider.

edit: apologies, just saw your carnet passage comment. ignore
