Hello,I am a fitness instructor from the uk,I want to teach my fitness classes in other countries, I am really interested in working in Latin America, and the Caribbean but I’m unsure about the laws, like for example if I don’t work in a gym, I could rent out a hall and do a Zumba or hiit class there, but I’m not sure how that works in other countries, I would really appreciate any advice ?

Hi!! I live in Mexico, but I bet the same rules apply for any country in Latin America. Unless you have a double nationality/ are a native to the country/have a permanent resident status, you are not supposed to work. Many Mexicans teach this kind of classes, therefore, unless legal, you would just take job/income from the locals.

You could also team up with a local to offer a diversity of classes, under the umbrella of the local person/legal status.

You would have to share the profit of course.

hello, i would always work legally, ive seen people who travel/work online so i know it is possible. im just not exactly sure how because its a niche market, im guessing theres a couple of agencies, i would also like to add im not after stealing anybodys job either, but the fitness industry is competitive, and people move/travel and change jobs all the time as that is life.

You can apply for a work visa through a Mexican Lawyer. I'm living in Ajijic Mexico and I'm here on a 4 year work visa which is a temporal permit and after the 4 years I can apply for permanente. People do work under the table but if you don't have a work permit, you could get in trouble. If you are eligible for permanente, yo can get that and then apply for a work visa here. You will need a good lawyer for that. I should do a video. Let me know if you would like more info.

@Shawking hello, and yeah i think talking to a lawyer is probably my best bet. its difficult sometimes with fitness instructors, because we do classes in different places, for example, one body combat class, and one Zumba class in one gym,and then one bodycombat class, and one body pump class in another gym, and some instructors rent out village halls to do classes, ive never done it in another country, and yes please id like all the information i can get as i really do want this.

I've been meaning to do a video for ages. I'll try to get to that this weekend. You'll want to get your resume together and look into the visa requirement for permanent residency and see if you qualify. It gets more difficult every year. I didn't qualify for that but I had a good lawyer that got me a sponsor to help me work in Mexico. If you qualify for permanente, I would go that route. If you don't, you will need a work visa. Have you been to Mexico before? I think the loophole is still open for residency if you were in Mexico prior to 2021. It may no longer be available but last I heard they had extended that for people. Doing classes in different places is not an issue. You will probably be doing that here too. I'm in Ajijic. You will need to move somewhere that has lots of expats if you don't speak Spanish. I was booked up within 2 weeks of being in Ajijic. You will have more competition but it's doable if you have some money to support you in getting established.
