Residence permit renewal (wp unlimited)

Post new topic

How long it is normally takes to renew your residence permit (I have unlimited WP) in Brussels.

Any ideas? What Annex should I ask comunne in case there will be a delay...Annex 15 or Annex 49 or which one

I tried to renew my RP four months before expiration. My commune told me that I had to wait 2 months before to renew the RP. I did that and one week before my RP expired it still hadn’t been renewed so I called IBZ. They told me that I should have started the renewal 4 months before the card expired.

You would get annex 49 till you get the new card. Many expats have the same problem. Welcome to the bureaucratic difficulties of Belgium. The best thing is to talk to your commune and submit it a bit early the next time.

the problem is you cannot travel outside Belgium on an annex 49 and I had business travel planned. I had a few arguments with IBZ and finally sent them proof that I had business travel planned. They approved my residency 48 hours before travel so I was able to get an expedited carte de sejour.

The thing is, I tried to submit documents for renewal 4 months in advance, when I applied for my L card, but they told me I had to wait 2 months more…but days before my card expired, IBZ told me that I should have applied 4 months before expiration. So the commune and IBZ are not aligned om timing.

Push back on them. Tell them that IBZ told you 4 months.
