Reactivation of CAJA payments after return?

AJGrandmaa

Hola, my husband and I suspended our caja payments in February knowing we would be away for 10 months.  We understood (possibly incorrectly) that we go into office to have the payments start again upon return. To day we were told we must start again (with proof of residency, 6 months bank and proof of local property bill).  Has anyone else gone through the reactivation upon return to have caja started again?  What did you require? Thank you.

wow.  I don't know of any expats that have done that.  Finding out 'ahead of time' would have been, well, better than finding out after the fact.  I do have a Tico friend that pays his own Caja and left for around a year to work in Canada.  When he came back, he had to start 'over' again as well...you can't just pay for a month and then get 'free' open heart surgery.  He had to pay 50% of any/all visits to the doctors and his meds for a full year before he was back 'in'.   Lucky you are in CR... in the USA they (health care co.) probably would turn you down to 're-enter'.   People get really mad at Health Care companies.

What about your Residency???   was it Permanent or Temporary??   My guess is, if you weren't Citizens, but just Residents... then your Residency may be dead as well.

We all know the rules, No Caja=No Residency.

You either need to jump on that ASAP and if needed, get a lawyer to prove to them that you were just 'careless' and didn't know....  Or, get private healthcare and start becoming perpetual tourists... leaving 2x per year isn't that bad... that's what I 'understand'.

@rainagain

this was recommended by our local CCSS office for residents who will be out of country for at least 3 months. There was a specific regulated application and associated paperwork.. from conversations with others - it is not that uncommon but are now not sure of accuracy of those statements.  We are also following up with our lawyer and will provide an update later.

@AJGrandmaa

Well, if you have a copy of the Application and the Paperwork, then you and your lawyer should have no issues resolving this.  Hopefully, it will get cleared up. Things take time here.

Is your Residency still valid??    That would be my #1 question because 180 days can go by really fast (since you last entered CR via airport and got that entry stamp)... you really don't want to be here without proof of residency and an expired passport 'entry' stamp.   That would be messy even if it wasn't even remotely your fault.

Perhaps find out if there has been a change in the rules... the new President has his fingers in everything because he believes that 'manipulation' is how to build capital, not work and innovation. He would fit right in with other Latin American dictators.  Perhaps he ended the 'no-pay' option for people who leave for extended periods... and it wasn't 'announced' ???  He is now charging newcomers from outside of central america a $100/month 'pension' fee...  even those who are already getting a Pension!!!   This is the only way he knows of to make money.  He's not educated enough to think 'outside' the box.

I wish you the best of luck.

BTW....  try your very best, without looking like you distrust anybody, ... to get the 'name' of EVERYBODY you encounter on this  journey... as well as keeping track of dates, and times you went to this office and that one, etc., as well as the names

  I always approach an issue here with a pile of 'evidence' and a smile... as if I'm trying to help, not Prove.   It generally works.

I really hope it all works out.

It would be great if you kept your “political opinion” to yourself. Because that is what they are “opinions” and not helpful here.

rainagain

@jwboozeriii

They are helpful if the Politician in question is taking ACTIONS that directly affect the people here and thus, they come onto THIS FORUM with questions about the Caja fees and procedures that are a direct RESULT of that Politician's Actions.  It's hard to describe WHY this or that is happening without telling the person with the original Inquiry what is ACTUALLY HAPPENING here to cause them pay.  So, if you consider that telling somebody that the new head of gov't has made changes is a political opinion.. then your grasp on English is worse than my 8 year old Tico students.

Should I just write... "Pay the fees and stop crying like a spoiled baby or an expat moron who didn't do their homework ahead of time?"

Would you prefer if nobody tells them anything at all???   If so... why are you even 'on' here???

Maybe, perhaps, ... read a book??  Or drink less.

Make some friends and just, perhaps, taste your own medicine and keep your 'opinions' to yourself.  ????

I simply try to explain to people WHY things are happening.

I was told to never get into a battle of wits with an unarmed person so I will leave you to your mindless dribble. A, MF !

@jwboozeriii

Thanks for reading!!!

Oh, and you're not that clever... everybody knows what 'MF' stands for...  (admin .. are you listening???)

it stands for the fact that you are too lazy to research and know the facts and thus, you HELP nor CONTRIBUTE anything of 'value' to this forum and instead, 'exit' the conversation with low-brow, declass, cuss words that mean nothing outside of the family that bore you... including your mom and your dad... whom I assume is where you learned MF from.

The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree... does it??   takes one to know one, boozer.

Probably too late, at your age, to get help.  But we are all praying for you.  God bless!

Could you explain the 2x per year leaving the country? How can one fit into that rule given the tourist visa is for 3months only. Thanks.

Hello, it was changed to 6 months recently

rainagain

@elmocostarica

Yes, as 'elmo' states, the new tourist visa is SUPPOSED to be six months... and you get it as a stamp on your passport when you enter the country via airport or border crossing.  Many expats live here as Perpetual Tourists, meaning, they don't have Residency and leave the country just before their passport stamp expires... they sometimes only leave for a day... doing a border 'run' up to Nicaragua for a day.  I guess it makes sense if you are a person who plans to leave regularly anyway... you can just plan your trips outside of CR according to your passport stamp.

BUT... that Six Month visitor's visa is not guaranteed... a border patrol agent or even a disgruntled airport migracion agent can opt to give you less days for your visit.  Make sure you look at it immediately after they stamp it... if they only give you 90 days and you were planning to stay for 4 months, you can, perhaps, ask for more.  Smile and act stupid.

Things can change on a dime here.  Be your own advocate.

Update:  the supervisor at the local CCSS (caja) office returned from vacation and we were able to restart payments by filling out a form, and having proof that we still reside in same place, proof when we returned,  Dimex and proof of pensionado status, etc.   I believe the first time we went, there was just miscommunication and misunderstanding - I doubt it is a common request.   It’s all good and we are back in the system.  Pura vida.
