Hi,

I'm Cynthia, semi-retired preschool teacher, a mother of one adult daughter/one teen granddaughter, considering a move to Da Nang. I can no longer stomach the high cost of living, lawlessness and crime of America, and have decided to move my family. Would like  legit information from an expat that's been to these countries on safety, cost of living, diversity, healthcare, weather, beaches, etc... I am planing a visit to Da Nang in March 2025, to do my own in person research. I've already checked these places out online, but I need info from someone that actually visited or moved to the country. Countries: Da Nang, Vietnam, Lisbon, Portugal, Alecante, Spain, Nairobi, Kenya, Nice, France (as well as small villages in South of France), and Amsterdam, Netherlands. I lived in Seaside, Pacific Grove, and Pebble Beach, and Monterey, California when Fort Ord Army base was active(been demolished)and I loved the diversity and environment. Would have never left, but had to return to Texas because my mom had cancer.  I love beautiful beaches, tropical fruits, Mediterranean, Mexican, and French food, shopping, reading, bird watching, travel, diversity, and peacefulness. This is the type of environment I want for my family. I do realize there are pros and cons in every country; as long as the good outweigh the bad.

Welcome to Danang Ms C, I have been in HCMC for the past 13 years and now here I am in Danang for this 2025. I think you have made a good choice to Danang, the cost of living here is generally cheaper than HCMC and peace and clean with beach view. If we have chance can catch up in Danang. All the best.

Since you are considering "moving" here (I live in Đà Nẵng with my Vietnamese wife and two bonus daughters) the number one consideration to study is VISAS.

The lack of an inexpensive & simple retirement visa here is frustrating the desires of many foreigners to relocate here with any sense of permanence.

Based on your description of yourself, you'll almost certainly find it difficult or impossible to find the legal employment necessary for a longer visa.

If you are independently wealthy and can afford to invest between $24,000 USD & $118,000 USD you can qualify to apply for either a 1 year visa or a 3 year temporary resident card.

Your adult child would need to qualify on her own merits, while your minor grandchild might have problems qualifying as your relative.

It would be helpful if you could be more specific about what "diversity" means to you.

If you only plan to associate with younger foreigners here, you'll find that to be a fairly diverse group with a general Laissez-faire philosophy.

Good luck with your search.

" Thanks for the information on Da Nang. I am 67  years young, and although I am on a budget, I have a new blog I'm starting  on my travel adventures. Diversity is culture, values, experience, ethnicity, gender, etc. However, I'm only interested in a culture diverse community. I enjoy meeting and learning new things from other ethnicity."

In which case, Vietnam might be too Vietnamese  for you.
