Taxation for US retirees in France.

Post new topic

Sulli Nav

It seems like US citizens are taxed at source on their retirement income.  However, looking at the tax brackets in France based on income and the high social security tax of 25%, how does this affect US retirees who pay social security tax in the US?  Can I assume the US retiree is exempt from French social security tax if residing in France?

Thanks for the response.  I have not participated in social media for years and have no plan to.  I will ask questions and research until I am satisfied.

Unfortunately, much useful info is most easily found on FB. I dislike social media also, but a workaround is to have a FB account with no friends, and all the security settings set to the max. This way I can join FB groups and get those benefits without all the drama. The groups mostly serve the same function as forums did before social media gutted them.

The "no friends" bit is the key.

Your choice entirely. However, I would ask people who respond, for their legal reference, otherwise it may just be an opinion, and there are plenty of those floating around. A legally referenced answer is priceless. Bon Chance.
