Obtaining a Thai drivers license

Post new topic

Hello

My motorbike license is expiring and I wanted to renew it but also to

get a car driver's license. I have a Thai motorbike license I have never had

a car Thai license. When I go to the land transport office I believe it's called

If I want to get both license do I just take my car? I can't easily take both.

I assume I just take my car because I recall there wasn't any driving test

with my motorbike when I got that license.

I am located in Phuket and the last time I got my motorbike license there

was a 9 week wait for an appointment. I have heard that going to Phang Nga

Province is much easier and less people. I understand they will issue two

separate license. One for motorbike and one for auto.

When I got the motorbike license there was minimal testing just a reaction

test and color test. Do you know is there a written test for an auto license?

I do have the International Driver Permit that's good for another 10 months

but thought it would be nice to get a Thai license for 2 or 5 years

Thanks in advance for any info!

The only thing I can say is this; If you live here longer than 3 (or 6) months you need MUST have a Thai DL

Your international license will be not honored in case of an accident, by police and or insurance. And yes, they told it was OK, but doe you have that on paper??

I go with the car for both licenses, take all required documents x2 and you are good

@martinoo2002

use your IDL + your home country DL together

If your DL is not in English you might need to legalize at Embassy

Go for a quick visit to LTO....just to be sure

I did my licences in Bkk not in Pkt, transforming my foreign basic licence + int. licence (bearing A+B) but using an agent GMLthailandservice.

They did not ask to translate any document, like  instead wanted all others.

GML Asked 4,000 baht for the service and brought me through the steps and procedures without written test and after 2 hours had my licences for Car and Bike.

Of course you need the doctor's certificate and the Residence certificate by immigration.

Try to ask them if can do for Phuket too at info@gmlthailandservice.com

When you do yourself pretty easy for 550 thb per DL

I am not a fan of using agents...
