Hi my name is Debra, me and my husband Andrew are hoping to buy a property in the next six months.

We have 5 years left before we retire but would like to be established in the DR before then.

I'm a receptionist in a care home and my husband is a floor fitter.

We are coming over at Christmas to have a look at property and areas.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!  There is a great deal of info here in the various threads.  Start reading honey and ask questions as you go along.  When needed, start your own thread!

Welcome :)!  I am not retired either but moved to DR (Punta Cana) year and a half ago.  So far so good.  But, of course it has it's challenges.   Which part of DR are you planning to settle?

@rgwsf

We were thinking maybe Bavaro, but to be fair we are going to have a good look around when we come over at Christmas.

Any suggestions?

Welcome!  If you want to get away from the usual tourist hotspots and enjoy untouched beauty, consider Samana Province.  We have been here for three years and are continually discovering unique experiences.  PM me if you want more information.  Prices are lower than the other areas which get a lot of attention.  Even though much of the area is underdeveloped, we are within a short driving distance from Las Terrenas which has shopping, more restaurants, etc.

Let's keep conversation in all the other threads please. This is for introduction and welcomes!

Debra, I highly recommend holding off on buying property! Buying is easy, selling is hard! Even within a given town, there are vast differences, sometimes from street to street!

If you find a place you think you want to buy, visit it during the day, at night, during high season, on a holiday weekend, on a Sunday morning, etc.
