Buying property

Post new topic

We were just about except a job offer in Istanbul when we came across some articles about inheritance, wills, etc. As we understand it, if one spouse dies, 50% of the property goes to the relatives and so on.  How can anybody retire in Turkey under these circumstances? We wanted to live there permanently, we love Turkey it offers, everything we wished for, but after getting this information we might stay where we are now and go back to Australia.  What a shame!! I wonder if all the people who retired there know about this unbelievable rule!

Would anybody know any different??

All you need to do is make a will in Turkey with a notary translator lawyer etc. and then you can leave your property to whoever you wish, anyone who is trying to sell you property in Turkey should inform you of this it is simple and not very expensive.

Thank you Mr Gocek for your reply. The truth is, if you have no children, parents or grandparents you still have to give away half the property to unknown, distant relatives. This is the law I don't understand. A lot of people got  into trouble because their lawyer did not inform them about this matter. But the law is the law so one has to obey if one wants to live in Turkey.
Here in Hong Kong costs $5000.00 for two wills you can leave everything to the surviving partner. As it should be. Thanks again.

Hi Sorry think you have misunderstood the law here, as said before you can leave the property to whoever you wish only the law says any relative does have a right to go to court here in Turkey and dispute the will. This is to safeguard the children who maybe left out of a will through spite or something like that. If you don't have that kind of problem within your family and no one enters the Turkish court to dispute your will your requests on your will (made out in Turkey) as said before will be respected.

Thank you again, Mr Gocek. This information will make our decision easier. We both very much like Turkey. We loved the the Turkish people do not take life so seriously and are not so worshiping the good old mighty dollar. They know how to enjoy life, totally opposite to Hong Kong. Here is work, work, work, money, money money, eat fast, sleep. Sorry  am rattling on but living here for five years taken it's toll on my usually cheerful nature.
Now our only problem will be our three cats as I understand one person, one cat. How can one get rid of the third? No way. We will have to find a solution to bring them to Istanbul.  Dear Mr Gocek, would you be able to advice???
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Charlick I have not heard of this one before sorry I took a cat from London to Turkey and know of many people who have transported more than one animal person here. I moved here and have not regretted it. Though I have to say there are some days where I wonder if it was a wise choice as the economy is hard yes people are not so much concerned for money and as long as you keep your sights on the enjoyment of life I think it is a great place to rest those weary bones. I used to work long hours and have hugh bills to pay in London where I worked for a long time, I still work hard but it seems a lot better here as people on the whole take time to enjoy life as well. Sorry I can't help about the cat question hope you find an answer to it understand you can't just leave one behind.

Thank you Mr G.
Well here one earns twice as much as you get in T. The facilities are fantastic, unless you are a tourist or visitor for a few months it is dreary. It is a money-full of existence. We rather be poor and happy.Plus the research facilities are better over in Europe and closer than from here. I read the Turkish papers every day to keep up with the news so we know it is expensive to live now. But Turkey is developing in a fast rate, you seem to have a very good Government. I am hungarian born, and have a lot of shared
history. They taught the wild hungarians to bath, cook, build, and generally all culture. We have words in our language in turkish too.
The employer is going to wait for my husband to finish his contract here, seventeen moths, as long as he signs with them next week when he is in Turkey How many country would do that? Of course LH is an excellent resercher!
So I say goodby now, and thank you for all your help. Have a very Happy LIFE!!!!
C. from Hong Kong.
