Organize your move to Senegal

Post new topic

Julie

Hi all,

we invite you to share your experience about moving to Senegal.

Here is a list of questions which might help the ones preparing their move to Senegal:

What would you bring and what would you leave behind?

Is it a good idea to bring furniture or domestic appliances?

Any foodstuffs that are banned in Senegal?

Is it better to bring a car or to buy one once settled in Senegal?

Any advice for the ones who are moving to Senegal?

Thank you in advance for your participation :)

Hi...last year I moved some items from the USA to Senegal into my flat...I think most important items are mattress and boxspring, any type of furniture, a multisystem flat screen TV is a must because it is very expensive to buy in Dakar jst make sure it is able to accomodate 220 v and has the right plug I purchased blenders, microwaves in Dakar. I would definitely brings my own pots, pans, cutlery and dishes, New York has many beautiful styles and varietys vs Dakar and bring your own cosmetics.  If I think of anything else I will post.  Good luck on your move

Oh one important thing if you are shipping get paperwork from the embassy because the ports are a nightmare and they will try to charge you so many fees...it was really frustrating for me and I didn't know about the extra taxes and fees that I could have avoided if I had made contact with my embassy first
