NEW TO DOHA, HELP

I will be flying into Doha this week, I'm American. I will have a tourist visa when I arrive. Hopefully I can find a sponsor for a work visa, so I can live and work in Doha. I also need to find an apartment. I've never been to the middle east and don't know anyone there. What is a good way to meet new people in Doha?

Apartments are a bit expensive here, try to stay out of commercial area's. Tyoe "Apartments in Qatar" and you'll find a lot of local website that might help.
