Opinions of areas to live in

Post new topic

LRosas

I am moving to Amsterdam in August with my boyfriend.  We're both 27 but pretty low key.  We're looking for an area that has a lot of younger crowds, good bars, good transport, great cafes, markets nearby.

People have told me that the Jordaan would best suit us.  However, I am finding some good apartments in De Baarsjes.  Can anyone give me some descriptions on what it is like to live in a certain area.

Thanks

Hi there!

Have you thought about De Pijp?

It's a really nice area, with the famous Albert Cyupmarkt, is young minded, has a beautiful park, the Sarphatipark, and has lots of really nice cafes etc. Personally I prefer it to De Baarsjes, but of course that's completely subjective. The Jordaan is lovely, but very expensive - it is very pretty though. But you pay for the prettiness and authenticity!

Perhaps Amsterdam West might be another good idea, too. It borders the Jordaan, and to the other side the famous Vondelpark area.

Hope that helps!
