What to See in New Delhi?

Post new topic

jazzy851

Hello,
Was wondering if anyone out there can advice on good places to see in New Delhi. I'll be going there on a work trip next week for two days and would like to know what is there to see and do in the area? I'll be at work for most of the day so I'll only get the two evenings for my very short visit. I'll be based close to the American Embassy School. Are there any good places to eat and drink too? Also what are the timings of places, i.e. what time do places of interest close?

Is the area ok in terms of carrying a camera and mobile phone (iphone) around freely, or do i need to be careful?

Any advice would be helpful. :)

Thank-you
Jaz

Hi jazzy !

Yes its absolutely okey to carry iphone & camera in delhi, almost all youngsters & professionals carry an iphone in Delhi just like any other metropolitan city on globe. Since you are gonna be staying in Chanakyapuri so you have the most happening nightclub in the city right there- F bar in Ashok hotel. But if its not friday or Saturday evening then i have'nt seen it "happening"... so go elsewhere. For Wednesday,There's a night club in GK-1 where they have expat night on Wednesdays & serve free drinks to expats till 12 in the night, cosequently its happening that day(i don't know what its like on a non-weekend & non-wednessday) I am forgeting the name- you can ask ur expat friends there they'd know.

Other days as advised above, hit Cannought Place. Among others "Blues" in outer Circle of Cannought Place is an alternative, they got music & drinks a little place to dance. Its near janpath road where outer circle crosses it.

Have a pleasant stay!

Oh & do take a pal along (male/female) just like you would in any metropolitan city on earth & you'll be alright.
:)

Take care !

Hi Warmfriend,
Thanks very much for your overview of Delhi.
Seems like the place has a lot to offer. I look forward to seeing the place. :)

Heyyy jazzy !

Oh yes Delhi is Rockin !

Your last post woke me out of slumber because you used the word- "Delhi's overview"

Because I realized it was'nt. It was just a standard response to a person coming to Delhi for just 2 days & wanting to go spend evenings someplace nice & safe "for a newbie" depending on the location of where he/she is staying in city.

& I also realized that I would be doing gross injustice to so called "overview" for someone putting up in Chanakyapuri  if I did'nt mention about the Vasant Kunj Malls area.

Its a continuously jointed cluster of 3 Malls - DLF Emporio, DLF Promenade & Ambience Mall. Ummm don't confuse this with suburban malls of yore in the western countries but think of this as the new downtown.

There are many music/drinks/space for shaking ur leg/1 day for live band/ live-jazz-sunday-night kinda joints here. "The Hub" in DLF Promenade has a few adjucent places brimming with crowd & rocking. & like there's one above the hub- "news cafe" & then some on top floor & some in between...

Ambience Mall has "Underdogs" the best sports bar in town a huge place having people 3-4 times the seating capacity even during daytime on weekends & holidays. I dunno the scene during weekdays. & there are other food-drinks joints too here. Etc.

Likewise there is Saket Mall cluster that came up a few years before the Vasant Kunj Malls having such places. But Vasant Kunj is closer to your place & more class meaning better ambience.

& then on the way to Vasant Kunj you have Vasant Vihar Priya Market where "Tercoise Cottage" above Mcdonalds has music/drinks & other night clubs in the same market below ground level.

If you go to F bar or Vasant Kunj Malls cluster, you can wear any godamn thing & let your hair down & not feel out of place at all. Except burka ofcourse :-) & you "must go" to either of these places if you have weekend crossing your schedule to get a hang of Delhi & the "Now Generation" of India, it will clear away many of your misconceptions....

Then other numerous places are there in other areas of south delhi like Defence coloney, friends coloney, southex, etc...

Hell there are so many !!

As in addition there are plethora of places in suburban town of Gurgaon & a few in Noida but for these suburban towns you need to be escorted with a seasoned night crawler to know which are the current trouble free places because there are security issues sometimes there that happen due to cultural clash of "Now Generation" with the youngsters who thought they got left out...

An overview? Nah I'm not an expert but just someone who likes to relax sometimes...

Sooo we'll be having "Jazzy Come to Town" soon !!

Good luck & Cheers !!!

Hi WarmFriend,
Your right, i'm in Delhi only for two days and your first response was great and provided the answer for someone visiting the place for a very short time. So apologies,  I probably should have phrased it better than "overview" for a short visit. However, now that you've added the overview, i will for sure take note. Moreover, others who want to visit Delhi, will find this info very useful.  ;)

Thanks

Anyway on my visit to New Delhi I did see Humayun Tomb, The Red fort, India Gate, Lotus Temple, Rajghat and lakshmi narayan temple. Not bad going for a very short visit. I was very impressed though, given it was my 1st visit there. I see the metro is going to expand too :)

Thanks to all, for the recommendations of what to see in Delhi.. A trip worth while.. ;)

I would make another trip there given the chance, but for abit longer.
