Expat blog gatherings in Cebu

Hi all!
What about meeting the other Cebu ½ûÂþÌìÌà members in real life? Organizing an ½ûÂþÌìÌà meet up would be an excellent way to know them!
An ½ûÂþÌìÌà meet up can be a diner gathering, having coffee, a bring and share in a nice place, a cultural or sports activity, etc. There are plenty of possibilities: just imagine a pleasant way to meet new people and old friends from ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ.
Feel free to organize ½ûÂþÌìÌà get-togethers in Cebu: you would meet the other members in a friendly atmosphere and have a good time together!
Of course, we could offer some help to organize your meet up and to inform the community.
So, whoÂ’s in? Do not hesitate to start a new thread to suggest an ½ûÂþÌìÌà gathering in Cebu.
Best,
Julien
HI Julien,
I'm going to Cebu for Holidays on 19 of July and I'll be stay there 5 days. If you want to catch up for a coffe let me know. Always is good to talk with people that can tell you their experiences. Best regards.
Alfonso
Hello guys,
This is perfect. I just came from Vietnam and China and I have met interesting people through expatblog there. We would go to bars together, sign up for cooking lessons and I have built a network of friends. I would like to experience having the same meet ups over dinner and coffee here with some other expats here in Cebu.
I'll be here til the end of July.
How about this weekend? June 30 perhaps? Let me know if other people would love to do the same.
Rica
Hi all,
as I said if someone wants to catch up for a coffe or something let me know. I'll be there on 20 of July. I hope it is not raining. XD
Cheers
As a venue for a regular expat gathering, my place in Consolacion, just off the highway and near the new SM might be ideal.
Hello Everyone!
IÂ’m so glad to find out that we have so much in common, we love to experience new cultures and meet new people from different countries. Cebu is one of the perfect places since it is the melting pot of various cultures. Count me in guys. IÂ’m so looking forward to meeting all of you.
LetÂ’s keep in touch so we can plan simple or great events. ItÂ’s highly interesting to meet and know each other.
Hear from you guys real soon!
Regards,
Stella
Hello all.
Do not hesitate to propose a date, an hour and a place. I am sure other members might be interested.
PS: The date should be given 2 or 3 weeks in advance so as to have a maximum of participants.
Thank you,

Hi Raj,
Curious about your project. Is it tourism related?
Would be glad to join a gathering here in Cebu, if not for the upcoming mission w/c i am occupied till mid Feb 2013, i would have wanted to help in organizing this event. Frohnie
I'm an expat that hasn't actually heard or seen of a expat meetup group that meets monthly. There should be one and a community organizer. Been wanting to get one setup if anyone is interested.
Helllooo!
I created at meetup.com group for people in Cebu... but nobody joined yet
Anyone interested in going out for drinks/food/checking out Cebu city (or city close by).. let me know I am in Canada now but will be there soon and would be great to hang out with some expats there!

I'm permanent in Cebu and have been trying to do this for a while. Not many young expats. Most are college students for a few years and gone after. Most foreign students don't know of any and it's dwarfed by other groups here.
I think it would be a great idea. I also posted try to get one up.
Hi Rstpnce...
I understand what you mean... I will work on getting something set up for end of Jan... beginning of feb...
What kind of work are you doing in Cebu?

Paused work to switch careers and go back to school. I'm studying here in Cebu. Tried a few different things and got bored with them all.

I'll start a meetup group Nov 29th and see how it evolves. Costs like $100 for the year.
Rstnpce...
I'm back in Canada now on holidays (Christmas and New Years) but back in January... If you get some people together and it works out, let me know!
What do you study there? I work online but just a couple hours/day and getting bored in my spare time... Was thinking about taking some classes to keep me busy but never got around to it...
Let me know...

I already set up a Meetup Group last week...

Which clubs do you go to in Cebu? Who else does concerts other than Waterfront?
I've only been in Cebu on my way over to Bohol... Went to Mango Square but that's it... I don't know Cebu well at all..
I will go back though in January and probably stay a few months or longer..
Where are some good places there?
J
I've been here almost 5 years. I don't go clubbing in Cebu there isn't much here and the Mango area and others like Club Pump are dangerous. Not to mention prostitutes litter these joints. But most foreigners like that they're easy girls and it's cheap ($10-$30).Â
I'm forming more of a expat/foreigners meetup where you can network and share stories. Drink and just chill. Once a month maybe or so. I know the places and some people here since I live here permanent. There is no meetup club or group since we all get along. There isn't a group to just meetup and meet/great and network. We don't have that in Cebu. The Indians in your group are looking for girls with one attribute of interest. below. Either paid or voluntary.
Just FYI.
I don't go do the club thing here that often. Music isn't that good, there are alot of fraternity gangs roaming them (Not ours these are bad boy dangerous mafias) and most of the girls that pursue you are prostitutes. 1/2 have an STD. They always demand money.
Also they're been visited by more gays (Bayots or Transvestite Drag Queens) and bisexuals. Depending if your comfort level is ok with that.
You're out of luck here.
There are some nice upperclass European style pubs and bars here. Good food and have satellite sports on huge 50" Samsungs.
I go to those. Not the clubs.
Rstnpce...
Yeah, that's why I'm looking for other places to go... Not interested in going back to Mango Square...
I lived in Makati last year and hung out with a bunch of expats and there were lots of monthly meetups (done through dinnernations)
There were also a few meetups through expat-blog in Manila I went to that were kind of shi**y... People were there to either sell you real estate or get you on some Herbalife health product scheme... I agree that a monthly meet for expats to network and share stories would be great..
I just got tired of Makati because any nice beaches were too far away... That's why I decided this time I would check out Cebu as Bohol (and I'm sure other nice beaches) is close by...
Would be great to hit some nicer European style pubs/sports pubs when I get there...

There are more foreigners in Manila. A lot more but in Cebu you'll find usually the retirees interested in their families settling down or the drunks roaming Cebu looking for pudai or Butoh. If you want to meet foreigners it's best you stay in Winland Towers to socialize.
It's hard here. Even the expats that live here our age get caught up the women and bikini bars for a while or end up settling down right away with a Filipina. There aren't any expat professionals and even students it's hard to come by. Mostly Iranians and Koreans but they keep to themselves. There are a few spots they always hang out in Cebu cause it's cheap. Socially it's hard to find your fit. You have to be here a while to figure that out.
I understand what you mean...
I lived in Thailand for 3 years and seen the same type of westerners there as I've seen in the Phils...
So, Winland Towers is a decent place to stay? I'm thinking about just getting a hotel next to Ayala for a week and check out monthly rentals when i get there...
Thanks,
J
Hello all.
To note that the thread title is ½ûÂþÌìÌà gatherings in Cebu. If you want to talk about another subject, do not hesitate to start a new thread on the Cebu forum.
Did you plan a meeting?
Thank you,

The traditional way ( also of Pinoys) is to meet in Civic Clubs, such as
Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions etc.
Then they meet unorganized in the usual watering holes depending on their social status.
One good chance where everyone mixes is the weekly "hash" from the
Hash house Harriers Cebu. 9Every sat staring 2 PM, time varies, check first.
Their home is the "SANDTRAP Sports bar" in Banilad, where also a lot pf professional (Read, still work!) Expats unwind.
Maybe I see you there one day on a Hash.
Cheers

hi im going to cebu on Sunday...what is the name of the European resto bar...tnx
Judging by your picture you would probably fit into :
Jokers & Arms in Mandaue ( British expat & Pinoy Pub
and go around in the Ayala Terraces, see if you like some places, it's all the usual places there.(google Ayala Terraces Cebu)
TGIF etc.
and the mentioned Sandtrap..but no Hash on Sundays.
of course there is a Kazillion other places, but those three would fill a Sunday. And when you meet people they drag you along naturally.
