Some guys Not all, even Egyptian 90% do but 10% do not.

One of the reasons.
And the solution is very very easy just REPORT
take care, and Good Luck
I agree ...there are lots of local Egyptian trying to be over friendly ..but blaming ALL is not right. Simply report such cases
take it easy, newgirl. when i moved to cairo i faced the same situations, people were over friendly, and I felt they just wanna use me, as I had heard awful stories. this is the egyptian way welcoming u in their country. if u feel it´s annoying, just ignore them. and don´t worry, u will get used to it
i'm sure that i didn't send u any messages. So, don't say every guy but say some guys.thanks
@newgirl1, now u got a message from everyone
those who sent you on private, and the others replied you here
congratulations
just press Report, for the headache to stop!

Olya.. not all Egyptians are perverts, don't think about it like that
theyre no different than any other guys in the world. some are pervs and some not. and really messaging someone and telling them about their job isnt perverted.

I've also received messages, that sounds like a CV, more than an introduction.
I guess the guys either think to make a big impression by stating their profession,
but most of them really just try to 'hook' a foreigner, because in their minds, a foreigner is an opportunity.
They equate foreigner with money, opportunity, money and perhaps a chance to move abroad.
They don't understand foreigners are human beings, and not something to exploit.
I've recently been invited to many dinners and I thought 'wow' people really care about me.
In a few days it came out they were looking for money to address their personal problems.
They will first be extremely polite, slitty intrusive, and treat you like you are part of their family.
This is a way to control you. Then their real purposes will come out.
A red signal is being asked lots of personal questions, especially to do with one's financial circumstances. Close the door before it is too late.
Often the plot involves an entire family, and can be perpetrated by men as well as women.
Watch out!

In my post I was referring to families scheming to obtain money from a foreigner, not necessarily to men approaching women. In fact you can even be approached by women who pretend to be your friends, until you get close to their family and they try to exercise power on you.
In a way they feel like Robin Hood: if they are poor and in their perception you are rich, they feel they have rights on your money or to have what you have.
This often implies that if you go out together and you buy yourself something, you have to buy it for them as well. They can also constantly asking for things you have. A mobile phone, clothes etc.
I ended up buying a cheaper phone and hiding the expensive one.
Basically, I am not able to invite anybody at home. They keep comparing what they have with what I have, and in the end one will just get a bad eye.
You will find most thinking what you can do for them, never what they can do for you.
I'm sure not everybody are like this, but I warn foreigners to beware of people who try to come too close in an insistent way. For instance, I recall a female acquaintance enquiring about my marital status, and being disappointed on the fact that I'm married, because she hoped for me to marry her brother. Then she asked me if I had problems with my husband! If I would say yes, would she push me to divorce? I mean it is really a third world mentality in some respect, and certainly these kind of schemes are more stereotypical of eastern rather than western societies. The western foreigner is simply not 'trained' to detect certain behaviours that we often mistake for friendship.
There are lines should not be crossed and they differ from country to country.
For example, in Saudi or UAE an accidental glance to a man it is taken as an indicator that you want to talk or even enter in a relationship with such man, not to say worse.
In my opinion the 'white foreigner' is stereotypically perceived as an opportunity to improve one's life, not as a human being as such. White foreigners have preferential treatment in hotels and other public places, where they are treated with an exaggerated politeness that sounds fake at times, while if you were to be Egyptian or black skin you would be treated less politely, and with less attention. The politeness it is often extended to the degree of wealth they associate with you.
When travelling by car and passing checkpoints, I get the impression that if a 'white western foreigner' had committed a crime, an Egyptian will be arrested in his place.
The least can be said is that class division and the gap that divides the poors from the wealthy has created unhealthy social models that just lead people to criminal behaviours.
I think you have respectable thorough thinking, but all these problems you are facing , I my friends and family facing the same problems, it is not only because you are foreigner yet we encounter such problems because of The gap between poor and rich, also don't forget that about 70% of Egyptians are under poverty line.
So the problem of our country is that you can't enjoy your money in public you just have to live with other riches behind fences.
Also about marriage offers you have , a part of the problem that a lot of foreigner older women come to Egypt and marry younger Egyptian mens so local people here looks at foreigner as an opportunity for wealthy marriage.
Most of Egyptians respect women,me myself I love my Egyptian fiancée and iam so Fidel to her I don't need money from here, on the contrary i gave here presents and gold of about 10000$ although my monthly salary is 500$
Don't worry about it but yes it is extremely annoying when they send inappropriate message. Sending a message about their job is harmless but if you feel that it requires 'reporting' then report it.
In defense of SOME Egyptian men are overly friendly with foreign women. so either get used to it or it will become an issue for you. BUT that doesn't mean that some aren't perverts...some are. So please learn how to differentiate betweent the two.
White man / Egyptian / Black man ? Sorry to say but you are being Racist here... I wonder West still couldn't get out of colors.
I am not Egyptian but I would like to advocate the fact that Egypt did not invited you or all of us Expats here its our decision that we expats came for what ever reason so do not expect the place to change its customs and behavior as they do not need to do this for us ... Its us who have to either take it or leave it.Â
What is your definition for Third world country and how do you define it?
People being friendly is just how they interact with foreigners We being EXPATS can not mold them as we want .. but by any means its not even close to harassment as compare to first world countries.
If you compare the UN rape ratio the figures are shockingly different between Egypt (0.1/10000) and USA (28.6/10000).
I have been living in Egypt since 5 years and YES I feel offended when I see expats criticizing Egypt for its way of greeting. To cut it short Take it or Leave it choice for us as being Expats.
I do agree that there are some Black sheeps but I do not know one single place where you do not find them so no need to troll this matter on this forum as far as people are sending messages do not read simple REPORT them .
Apologies if my message offended you but this is how it goes here in Egypt and anywhere in the world.
