IT Industry In Mauritius

Howdy

I'm a Mauritian Citizen now living in Melbourne (now Australian Citizen). I have worked for a number of IT companies in Australia such as InfoSys, Capgemini, The Big four banks (ANZ, Westpac, CBA, NAB) and other smaller/private companies. I am also an IT entrepreneur and business owner of a small software development company specialises in Mobile and Web software development, Testing and release. We get contracts from Banks, Small and big organization.

Unfortunaly most of my friends in Mauritius are mostly in Finance, Politics, Teaching, Advertising and Photography and can't really help me on that. I'm wondering what's the IT industry like in Mtius.

I come to Mtius to see my parents, relatives and friends every 2 yrs. My experience are Software Development, Project Management, Software Quality Assurance, Release Management, IT Advisory/Audit etc...

Those in the IT sector would love to hear your thoughts on other IT Companies/Consultancy based in Mauritius.

Hi mtianInOz, and welcome aboard,

there are many opportunities in the IT sector, it shouldn't complicated to find a good job in MRU once you decide to come back

All the best,

Julien

Software development positions tend to be either .Net or Java based.  You'll also find plenty of Project Manager positions around too.

As for the state of the industry, there is a skills shortage, but there are caveats: you really can be over-qualified for the market here (those with extremely strong academic backgrounds beware); and knowledge of the latest platforms and languages (e.g. Mobile technologies) may not be what is typically required.  The ICT industry here is not revolutionary in what it is doing.

There's a skills shortage here, so there should be no problem getting a job.  If you have the contacts then you can probably speed up an appointment quite considerably.

Hey guys

Thanks very much for your info.

Message to other IT Professionals out there in Mauritius:
- Plz Keep posting/sharing your thoughts and experience.

I also noticed that there are not a lot of recruitment agencies
in Mtius that I could just turn to for jobs opportunities/Info. That sucks. Damn ! :-(

If you know of any please share.. :-)
