Just moved here!

Hey everyone!

I just moved here from the States, and have been here about a week and I am having a hard time meeting people and making friends. It's not the same when you can't speak the language and don't know where to find others who speak English or any other language besides Thai (not that I don't want to learn Thai now)! Anyone can send me an email or let me know what is going on around the city. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you!

Try hanging out in Silom area. There are so many expats there.

Another tips you may interest. On Friday night, there are lady-night events at some hotel pubs. For example, "My Bar" at Dusit Thani hotel at the corner of Silom. You may try going there and make new friends. Just don't get too drunk and have fun. Anyway, you need to be cautious as not all people are truly sincere or friendly as they seem to be.

If you are into religion, try out at church on this coming Sunday. That'd be a good start.

Hi Mary,

Welcome to Thailand.:)

My wife and I moved to Thailand about 5 months ago. We lived in Seattle for three years (my home town) and decided to move to Thailand and think about retiring here...or at least give it a try. We live in Ubon Ratchathani now close to her family and little nephews. Ubon Ratchathani is in the North East part of Thailand.

The Thai people are very kind, respectful and polite, but like anywehre in the world you need to exercise caution being a young lady alone. By now I hope you have had a chance to meet some nice people to help you navigate around Bangkok.

The language can be a challenge, but if you can meet others who speek English as well as Thai, you will feel so much better. If my wife wasn't Thai, I would probably still be at the airport trying to find my way to the hotel.

I wish you the best.

Hello,

I grew up in the US (Miami, LA). If you want to hang out give me a shout.

I'd just like to welcome you.
I'm not living in Bangkok though I find it one of the most exciting cities on the globe with terrific art galleries, restaurants, etc. I live on the island of Samui which is a bit quieter. But then again, I'm older!!! And quiet is what I need and want.
I'd just like to say that you'll never regret moving to Thailand!
Stay open! Thais are the most heart-full people on the globe!

All ways Best,
Diane (author; Dear Thailand: A Love Story)
