Ok everyone, time to finalize things. I have spoken to several people and it does seem that Saturday, Sep 22nd is the best day. The plan is to use the Van Thanh park space that has been already reserved by Quynh (thank you Quynh for that generous offer).
I think we should plan to start at around 12:00 noon ... 3pm might be a bit late, but the morning might be a bit early (opinions?)
Now, lets get a full list of planned attendees and what they may bring:
Things I think we will need:
BBQ meat --- to be brought by myself
Other grill-able food (fish, etc.) --- ???
Cooking supplies (do we need charcoal for the grills?) ---
Cooking tools ---
Plates, eating utensils, cups, paper towels, etc. ---
Drinks - beer / wine / other alcohol ---
Drinks - no alcoholic (juice, Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc.)
Side food items (chips, veggie tray, Vietnamese dishes, etc) ---
Anything else? Suggestions?
Ok, so now if everyone can please reply on this topic stating clearly that they will attend and how many will join them and what they are able to bring. Additionally, please either post your contact number or send it to me privately if you do not wish to post it.
My contact info: John Bellew 0905409947 (going to run out and add minutes - ran out last night)
Talk with everyone soon and hope we can have a great time!
I think 12:00 is ok, 11:00 is preferable though
Yes, we need charcoal. We could buy charcoal outside and bring to van Thanh, or buy from BBQ's service. They will deliver to our place and help us to fire up. However, their price is 5 times higher than the original (vnd 30.000/kg. We need about 3-4 kg).
I will bring mooncakes, and my friends bring French sausages.
The venue and time are perfect. I will send my contact to you. Champaign and non alcoholic drinks and sausages will be brought.
Hi All ,
I will bring 5 kg charcoals , Plat; glass;spoon; fork plastic ; chopsticks; kitchen towels; wet tissue .Kitchen tools : knife; chopping board; plastic bowls...ect ..

-- Anyone know if I can put up small 'signs' at the park to tell everyone where we are? I can probably get some made here today or tomorrow - 1/2 meter by 1/3 meter on a spike to put in the grass? --

Nice idea John! Our place is Tent No.4, picnic area. It's very easy to find if you enter from the back gate of Van Thanh. If the staffs there ask you whose this tent belongs to, please tell them my name: Quynh
Moreover, I think we need some ice, and ice container?

Hi everyone ... just thought I would dig this out of the archives to let all know that I am coming again this October, 2013 and plan to do a 2nd edition of our BBQ (going to try and bring 2 steak loins) ... I will try and plan a bit ahead this time and even had a thought about renting a large van/small bus to go as a group to the beach and grill out there instead of HCMC ... thoughts?
Welcome back ! It's nearly a year, time flies
Hi
It was very joyful last time and great to meet Saigon Visitor and other nice people. It is a great idea to hold another BBQ at a beach in October (my birthday falls in this month!). Hopefully, it will be held on the same day with many participants... :-)))
Cheers
Tam
