NEVER RENT until you have inspected. Even if the place is nice, it might suffer from noise, flooding (in the street is bad enough), etc.

You will have to deposit (usually) two months rent security (returned at end of lease) PLUS first month.

Water is VNDong12,000/cubic metre; electricity VNDong2028/kWH (mid-range price); garbage (throw it on the street); cable TV VND70,000 / month, washing machine (air dried clothing here). A container of propane gas VND400,000 (good for family of 3 for about 3 months).

A basic furnished apartment includes kitchen with stove+microwave; dining table and chairs, TV, sofa, beds+mattresses; 3-piece toilet(s).  Some even come with cooking utensils and dishes included.

Usually you have to buy sheets/pillows/pillowcases, etc..

Public transit (buses) is very basic. No subways, etc.; plenty of motorcycles!

Expect to pay around USD$400-500 for a 2-bedroom apartment in just rent. Cheap, basic, student accommodation is usually really basic, crowded and cubicles in a big room ... and not cheap.
