My daughter has both Belgian-Thai nationality. Visa question.

Hello all,

I was looking for an answer with the search engine, but didn't find it as well.

So, let me introduce myself. My name is Domi. I am married in Belgium with a Thai woman and we have a little daughter, 5 y/o who has already both nationalities (born in Belgium).

We plan to move to Thailand in next February. Our marriage  documents in Belgium have been translated and validated by Thai authorities.

My question is : What kind of passport do you suggest I use for my daughter ? Belgian or Thai one (as wi will stay in LOS undefinitively)

If she uses a Thai passport, I am afraid it can be a source of troubles with the customs when leaving from Belgium (well, she has a child ID card, but will it be enough?)

And if she uses a Belgian passport, then she will need a non-O visa, as a Belgian citizen, to stay in Thailand, and renew it as a foreigner.

Did someone lived the same case ? And what do you think it would be the best to do ?

Thanks a lot for any reply :-)

The solution is very easy and is done by many people with dual nationalities.

Leave Belgium on Belgian passport and enter Thailand using the Thai passport.  If she ever goes back to Belgium just reverse the process by using Thai passport when leaving Thailand and Belgian passport when entering Belgium.

Thanks a lot Straydog,

I received also today the same response from Belgian Embassy in BKK. Well, no more visa matter, just 2 passports to buy ;-)But finally, the best solution.

All the best
Domi
