Apple iPhone in Australia

In 2010 I will be retiring to Brisbane from the US.
Will my new Apple iPhone work there and will I need any power transformers etc to charge it.
Any other suggestions or comments appreciated.

PS I used to live in Brisbane but that was years ago.

I too have an iphone and am currently living in the states waiting to move to AU next month.  I have been told that you can not use an American iphone in AU.  I was told that by both AU and ATT in America.  However, you can jailbreak your phone (which voids the warrenty) and get a sim that will allow you to use it with any carrier.  In AU, you buy the iphone from apple and then are allowed to use any carrier for service.  They will not give service to a jailbroken phone so you can't tell them you have done it.  Here is some info:
