Libyan Dinar exchange rate vs US$

Post new topic

Siddiqui

I have heard from various sources that there is a plan to re-value the LYD higher by the end of 2010 to a level of 1 LYD = 0.60 USD.

Apparently this is mentioned on the Libyan Investment website but I haven't been able to find it so far.

Anyone has any further info on this subject that they would like to share?

Libya to keep exchange rate unchanged

Libya is keeping its exchange rate unchanged, a senior central bank official said on Tuesday, denying media reports it planned to strengthen its dinar currency.

"The central bank has no plan to change the Libyan dinar exchange rate," the official, who did not want to be identified, told Reuters by telephone.

The Libyan dinar has, since 2002, been kept stable at a rate of 1.2 to the U.S. dollar. A Libyan Internet news site had reported Libya planned to strengthen the currency's value to 0.6 dinar to the dollar.

Economists in Libya say the dinar is, in effect, pegged to a basket of currencies, with the U.S. dollar accounting for 44 percent, the euro 34 percent, sterling 11 percent and the Japanese yen 11 percent.
