Inbox full and can not sent messages

Post new topic

fadi.h

You need to improve your messages setting,
when I receive message from someone and i try to reply to that person the message it won't go and saying that person inbox is full and can not receive any messages.
you should increase the inbox size.

Harmonie

Hi fadi.h, to note that the more active you are(on the forum), the bigger your mailbox is.;)

Harmonie.

fadi.h

thanks for your info, but the problem when you reply to someone else your message won't go

James

That's correct fadi,h but the problem is that the person you are trying to send the message to IS NOT ACTIVE ON THE FORUMS so has a very small inbox as a result. If that person does not delete past messages, but simply leaves them in the inbox then the space remains used up and no new messages are accepted. The problem is with that member not the blog. If you can't contact the member by PM then add a reply to one of his/her topic posting asking the member to clean out their inbox so you can send a PM. If that doesn't work it is likely that the person doesn't even visit the blog anymore.

Expat-blog can not provide unlimited mailbox space for every member it is simply way too expensive. Not even MSN Windows Live will do that. I have a very large capacity in my inbox because I'm very active in the forums and a member of the TEAM, yet it isn't unlimited nor would I expect it to be. Even so I clean mine out on a regular basis so nobody get the mailbox full message.

Many thanks for the info William
As you know there are so many people joiningExpat-blog and they dont know much about the term and condition or they do not read it, but Expat-blog Team should send message to all member to let them know about this and also to topic forum so they do not get this kind of problems and keep using this website rather to go find another Expat website.

thanks again
Fadi

James

Hi fadi.h,

Trust me, even if Expat-blog sent a private message, with the "Terms & Conditions of Use" and the "Code of Conduct" for the forums, most would still never read it, by their OWN choice. Unfortunately in many cases it's those very same people who flood the forum with posts when something goes wrong, they can't understand how to do something, and then they don't take the time to read the other postings on the same topic where they can find an answer.

I don't think sending everyone a PM would solve the problem of people not having enough space.  It might just make it worse.

Julien

I guess we should send an email to the new members when their mailbox is about to get full ... I'll see what we can do. But well, we'd also prefer if people could communicate more on the forums than in private (which is not the case at the moment) ...

Thanks Julien

There you have it folks.... a prime example of the anti-spam system at work and why it's so necessary.

Somebody else who signed up with only the intention of filling the mailbox of as many of the female members as he possibly could with copy and paste proposals of some kind of relationship. Worse still had the courage or was foolish enough to complain about mailbox size and suggest it should be even larger for WOMEN.

Nothing surprises anymore!

Most of us didn't see what he said, so it might not be the best example.

Now I'm wondering if I should be insulted that he didn't send me a PM.

And what's wrong with making the inbox larger for women? :P

James

Hi Hailey,

The big bad word BANNED combined with the moderator's quote is the big tip-off.

I saw his original posting in this forum and about the anti-spam system and mentioned exactly what his complaint was.

I see no problem in offering women larger mailbox capacity... just don't know if we should include checkboxes with the request to indicate, "I'm popular and need more space" or "wanna be hit on more by bufoons". LOL

I don't understand why our mailbox size is very limited.

fadi.h

So we do not save any received email ;))

James

Hi Hericles,

The cost factor! Sites that offer high capacity mailboxes cost an absolute fortune to set up and operate, many of them even charge a membership fee. Since Expat-blog is still a fledgeling site this is not possible right now. Maybe in the future with lots of sponsors and paying advertisers, who knows? For now I'm quite content with a high quality social network to belong to that I don't need to pay a cent to use.

Hi fadi.h,

Regarding the "inbox full" error message and not being able to send private messages to that individual there is little else that can be done. There is an indicator right above the green SEND A MESSAGE button that clearly shows how full one's mailbox is. If someone chooses to ignore that warning and allows old and mostly unnecessary messages to accumulate (both received or sent) then that is their own problem. It sort of tells me they simply don't want to get more mail.

I mean really, how difficult is it to figure out that you should clean it out once in a while, toss the junk you no longer need and even copy the stuff you want to keep and paste it into MS Word and save it on your PC? Geez, I get dozens of PMs every day if I let my mailbox fill up with useless #&$# that I wasn't going to ever read again nobody would ever be able to reach me after a week's worth of communications. If they're that dense do they need somebody to show them how to turn on their computer every time they want to use it too? Sorry, they won't see me shedding any tears on their account. These are probably the very same "nuclear physicists" who insist on posting their e-mail addresses and phone numbers in open forums and then scream the loudest when they start getting major attacks from spambots.

I can't really see any problem with the system as is.  My inbox is about 1% full because I delete everything after I've read it.  I don't know how big it is, but it will never be full.

If you're sending a message to someone with a full box, maybe wait and try again later.  Making the inboxes bigger won't stop them from getting full if people never empty them.

I see the moderator part, but I don't see the banned part.

James

Hi Hailey,

The member's status has changed back from "Banned" to "New Member". Maybe you're in luck and you'll get a private message from him after all. Just not to feel left out. LOL

Great.  Something to look forward to.

(Whoever was asking what sarcasm is, that was it.)

My favorite PMs are the ones asking me where I am.  HaileyinHongKong, From: Hong Kong, underneath every post the flag China - Hong Kong.

I love to save my PM especially the one that inspires me but I keep on deleting my inbox messages because of continue reaching 100%. I just hope theres a way to keep it in my inbox as long as Im a member.
Just now I deleted one whole pages of my inbox and suddenly theres 2 new messages showing but when I open my inbox again theres no new messages at all but still 2 more shows. Don't know what to do because I am always waiting for PM and this confuses me......:)

and its rely annoying

Emman,

The only way I know of saving all of your message without filling your mailbox is to copy the message, paste it to MS Word and save to your hard drive. Sooner or later your hard drive will get filled up too. Which is exactly the reason Expat-blog can't offer you unlimited mailboxes. Just think of your hard drive, now multiply that by thousands. Can you imagine the storage capacity this would require?

Thanks Sir james, I just hope the thrill of excitement on opening and reading messages in the inbox will still be the same then it is already copied and pasted. chow :)

HaileyinHongKong

If you're only saving a few messages it shouldn't be a problem.  If you're saving most of them, you really should save them somewhere else.  Whether there's space or not, if this site crashes or gets hacked, those messages could be lost anway.  Nothing online is all that secure.

Copy and paste to your google/yahoo/msn email. Most browsers today have multi tabs.

Hard disk space isnt like years ago. Cost is no longer a factor. May the migration process is. But i cant see any difficulty in your system.
