Traveling to Brazil

Post new topic

dream_on-07

Hello guys,

My name is Hope and I'm from the Philippines. I'm traveling to Brazil early next year (February or March 2013) and I might be staying in Rio for a while... And I'm actually looking for a place to stay. I'd be glad if you guys could suggest a cheap studio apartment for me stay for like 3 months?

I'd really appreciate if you could give me some info! Thank you so much! :)

James

Hi dream_on-07,

On behalf of the entire Expat-blog Team welcome on board. I hope your experience will be both enjoyable and informative.

If you are planning to travel in early February (before 12th) I'm sure you will find it almost impossible to find accommodations in Rio since this is the week long Carnaval celebration and certainly everything was booked up long ago.

Also period you mention is right during high season so it will be difficult to find vacancies.

At any rate you will not find a "short-term" apartment they don't exist. By law apartment leases in Brazil are 30 month contracts. You might be able to find a rental (apartamento para temporada) through a local newspaper or maybe even asking a travel agency here.

Hi, Hope! I suggest you look for apartments outside the metropolitan area.

James

Hi Adrian,

Furnished apartments are actually quite rare in Brazil, you will traditionally find them only in Residential Hotels which can be quite expensive or in Pousadas (like a B&B without breakfast) and these are generally located in touristy areas. If you're on a tight budget I would suggest placing an ad in our classified section dedicated to housing seeking shared accommodations.
