Jobs for Expats? (Canadian)

Post new topic

pberger

Hi,

My parents recently moved to Manila due to my father's work. I'd like to know if there are any opportunities for Canadians in Manila? I've actually applied to a handful of advertising agencies already (TBWA/Saatchi Saatchi/BBDO/Leo Burnett).

Any guidance or leads would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to move closer to my family, since they mean a lot to me!

Thanks in advance,

Christine

Hi pberger,

Welcome to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ! :)

I would suggest you to post an advert in the jobs in Manila section.

Best of luck,
Christine

Thanks for the replies. I've already looked that job forum actually (kind of checking daily to be honest!), but I've also been applying via other job sites (Indeed, LinkedIn).

Again, thanks for all the help/tips/info.

I have a specialist degree in digital media and communications, and I'm aware that there are many agencies over in Manila (mentioned in my first post). If anyone has any contacts from there, I would be forever grateful! ...my mom would too!!

In general, I would recommend specialized BPOs (many of them are in the fort), the education sector (int. schools and private universities) as well as the iNGO sector (e.g. Asian Development Bank, European Union).

All of them offer a good compensation for Internationals in Manila.

Why not try jobstreet. I used this site before and I received responses after a few weeks. From what I can remember you can upload your resume for instant viewing of prospective employer.

Try looking for jobs in Makati but make an online research first and you'll realize that most of the available jobs are found in Makati. You can spend a day just moving from one building to another without having to go too far. (Been there done that.)

Makati is the destination of new graduates and job hunters.

hi, there are tons of marketing agencies who really look for out of the box thinkers.  if you can give some idea of a summed up CV or just mention your strong points here, i'm sure we can direct you much better.

on the other hand, to get hired, you need a work permit and need to figure how you're going to get about that hurdle.

never the less, i do remain sure that for marketing and advertising interests, there are many companies worth checking into, or even aligning yourself with.

Thanks for all the tips. I actually just booked a ticket to visit my parents in May.

So I am currently a Campaign Manager at a media company in Toronto, Canada. I work closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders (editorial, client, creative agencies, marketing/promotion, advertising, legal, accounting, operations/production, etc.) in the execution of integrated sponsorship program.

I've reached out to the media companies in Manila and a couple of creative agencies through their websites thou. I'm not certain of the volume of applications they deal with on a daily basis.

In any case, I'm hoping to send some more notes prior to leaving to Manila - or honestly, I'll just end up going in person!!

Thanks for all the tips again, I really appreciate it

Hi pberger,

I've got a tennis buddy who is into marketing and his company just won the bid to handle the marketing for the department of tourism (which is an impressive win).  ofcourse his company handles other marketing campaigns, but i believe this is right up your avenue in that he perhaps can guide you pretty well.

I will be back in manila before your visit - as soon as i return, i'll get his email address and pm it to you.

hopefully he can open up a list of direct contact for you to persue.

regards
sanjay
