What would be the best part of the country for making it as a base?

We are thinking of coming to Belize in November for staying in the country for 5-6 months and explore the country to see, if we can identify a part of Belize where we can feel ourselves the best and maybe to relocate there permanently in the near future. What would be the best part of the country for making it as a base and be traveling from there around? I mean location, costs, safety, access to resources and shopping, etc. Any suggestions?

Rent a house in Belmopan City. You'll be at the crossroads of the north-south, east-west highway system in the middle of the country.

Belmopan is a good idea...  But when I was in Belmopan it almost felt like I wasn't in Belize.  It seemed pretty dull in comparison to other areas.  Of course, I was only there for about three days.  I ended up settling in Corozal.  It's sleepy, but never dull!

Research!  Research!  Then come and travel!   Welcome.

there is NO substitute for personal experience.
Plunge in!
pick a spot that you like (for any reason).  then stay in a hotel for 1-2 weeks while you look around.
then rent a house/apt in the place you think may work, then travel from there, exploring the rest of the country.   The districts are quite different.

There is no risk in making the wrong decision about place if you do not buy.  If you want a risk free relocation, then becoming an expat may not work for you.

The people who seem happiest as expats here seem to be able to accommodate their regions pleasures and pains.

I like the logic of Mr. Lee and would check out Belmopan or Corozal as first locations for further exploration.

Would someone explain briefly the climate differences of the districts? Mainly regarding temps rainfall. Thank you..

Thank you everyone for your inputs - I really appreciate this.:)

So far, we visited only Caye Caulker for 2 weeks and and San Pedro for 1 day in March-April. We loved the island a lot and wanted to return there for a longer stay to see, if we can feel comfy living there for a long period of time. And do our travels around the country from there. But, after some time passed by, we asked ourselves - is it a really good idea to be stationing in CC in the first place and do exploration trips over Belize from there? Maybe not. Though, CC is a really wonderful island, it is quite costly to stay there compare to other regions and there is evidently less supply of goods and foods in CC. So, here we are asking for suggestions for maybe taking a different approach to reach our goals.

Yes, it would be very helpful to understand climate differences because I heard many times that the southern part of Belize gets a lot more rain then others and it would be nice to see what that really means? Is is that bad as some people were trying to explain me? I live in Vancouver, BC and we have lots of rain here and I wonder, if it is comparable to how much rain falls in Placencia or PG and how much it affects longevity of real estate?
