I have an experience with a medical insurance where in I'm covered with all the medical expenses when I got hospitalized last month. It's a car accident to be exact.

When travelling, medical insurance is always a must because you may not be covered by the healthcare system where you are and the expenses could wipe you out.

Having said that, your case is a bit different since it involved a car accident and while it may take some time to get any money, the auto insurer would ultimately have to cover any medical expenses.
