Hi,
I will be working in Cairo for 7 weeks starting July 2013 and was looking to hangout/sight see with other women. I've read quite a few forums about the dangers of women travelling alone in Cairo and feel quite nervous to be honest.
Thanks.
Hello,
I am an Egyptian who is currently living in Cairo, and moving to Cork soon...It is not as bad as you described it...The country is seeing terrible circumstances due to the political conflicts it is facing that affects everything. But I can't say that it is not safe to be there by yourself. Egyptians are very friendly and helpful in general...Probably, I am moving to Cork beginning of July. If it was not the case, I would have been more than happy to meet you and help you around. BTW, which district will you be staying in???
One tip, try not to be very late by yourself (after 12:00 a.m.). Before this, it is relatively safe
Hello,
I will be staying in Zamalek - but would like to travel to Alexandria and Luxor during my stay.
From sunday - no where is safe at any time.
But also depending on what happens some of the sights could well be closed for safety reasons as they were during the revolution.
Zamalek is extremely secured because most of the Embassies are located there...It is one of the most prestigious districts here in Cairo...Alex and Luxor would be safe as well because both of them are touristic areas...Just let me know when will you arrive, and I can meet you in case I am still here...
Welcome to the ancient country!
Yes definitely there is...But I can't advice about an exact one...Probably, you can ask one of the residents there (e.g. in a hotel reception or so)
how are the touristic areas safe?
Over the years there have been more people (tourists) killed at touristic sites in Luxor than anywhere else!
Alexandria is jnot safe either - the city is quite volatile and saw some of the worst violence during the revolution.
No-one can say - hand on heart - that amywhere will be safe next week. We all just have to see on Sunday whether it amounts to anything - or whether it will just be something and nothing.
If they taking control of the airport, im not sure you can come at all..........
If the airport is taken over how long will that go on for?
If I knew that I will be in jail for sure.
You will read international news that day, or even headline! Hope not.
Before that, God knows.

Please see the news - in luxor there has been so much fighting over the last few days and attacks against copts that a state of emergency has been declared in that area.
Thomsen and first choice holiday companies evacuated all thier holidaymakers from Luxor this week.
If anyone I know had travel plans to come to egypt - I would tell them to cancel - all embassy staff evacuated - virtually all europeans / americans / gulf have left.
No, I'm still here
But regarding the situation I wouldn't come here now especially you don't know anyone and how things are going... And 100% NO VISIT to Alex or Luxor
Sad regards
Stay safe!
So am I - but am not sure what that makes me!! - but must admit to keeping a close eye on how things are developing - even my husband (who is Egyptian btw) says there is no point in staying if it isn't safe and if the situation deteriorates even more.

i just wanted to say my openion,,,
ramadan kareem and wish you have a good night
Sorry - but better to be safe thn sorry - also most EGyptian men on here get banned pretty damn quickly due to them trawling the expat woman by PM.
Sorry but it is a sad fact.
Even through my personal experience - I have not met many expat woman - egyptian men relationships that stand the test of time.
Mainly due to what has been posted above - so forewarned is forearmed in my book.
hi biffy
wish you have a good luck
and myself and my wife and my kids will be glade to help you in our country egypt,
all our respect

Hello,
I have a chance to move to Cairo and I am a little worry after reading that post. could someone explain me if that is a real possibility?
thanks a lot!
OMG - who knows what is / isn't a possibility right now.
Anything is possible.
And as the guy said if we could answer that then we really would be in trouble!!
hi possiblefutureexpat
i think you do should not worry like that, cairo airport is safe and most places in cairo is safe,we driving our cars and go arround and nothing happend,,,sometimes we can find some protects in the roads and other place is safe,,what you really need to find a car to pick you from the airport to your home or hotel,,,,just to do not spend time to negotiate with drivers
i do not know how those people who said that the airport may be will taken
come on,,,you are coming to egypt not to mozamiq
dont worry about the airport being taken over. . . this will simply not happen. .
Hi. Good luck and travel safely.
to err on the side of safety - do ot trust any EGyptian men
unfortunately I think that this is very good and wise advice
I.d be happy to accompany you to alex from cairo! Yay
I reallly want a female travel buddy to alex, from cairo ... I really can't just go alone!
