You could also try WJ Towell near the ISG school.... they have quite a few Mazdas out there..... Mazda 6 - OMR 240/month. Mazda 3 is a lot cheaper...

Hi Everyone,

I'll be moving to Muscat next month. I'm form South Africa and I'd like to rent a car once I am there, the only problem is that I need to renew my driver's license and this takes a long time in South Africa, so I'll be travelling to Oman with my temporary license.

How strict are they at the car rental agencies? Do you think I could rent a car with a foreign, temporary license? I plan on also bringing an international driving permit, perhaps that may help.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be great! Thanks!

You can rent a car and drive around for about 3-months, with an International Driving Licence.

Without a valid South African Driving Licence, you would have to go through the ordeal of getting a local, Omani Driving Licence.

Any day, it would be immensely better for you to come armed with a valid South African Driving Licence, which can be converted to an Omani one across the counter easily.

Else, be prepared for some seriously harrowing times.

Once my license is ready I'll have it couriered over to Oman, hopefully I'll be ok for the first few weeks that I need to wait while I'm over there with my international permit.

Reading so many forums and blogs with getting information about rent a car, it's over load information.

Questions are:

> With the usual HERTZ / AVIS / BUDGET; usual rent a car company- the rates would be standard of what it mentioned above from OMN 160 - 220 P/M

> Are there local rent a car company which offers the same service with cheaper rates?
- If there are, would happen to have any idea what are the rates?

> It would also be great if anyone could advise the specific area / location of the local rent a car company?
- Does any one have any links they could share so that I may contact the company prior before I arrive there next month?

Are there any local rent a car agencies that can give a good, clean car within a budget of 120 to 140 RO per month along with reasonably good service.

Can you mention the companys that do local deals please .
