Hi Everyone, I love this forum andhave been a stalker for quite some time. You all have great information and have been very infrmative for my intrest in persuing employment in KSA.

I am an american in the USA who is considering a job as an aviation maintenance instructor and have been offered $60-64k USD. I have been told that it is customary to counter any offer, but just how much is the question.

I have a friend who did the same thing a couple of years ago and he was making 21,000 SAR/mo (2 years ago). He told me I shouldn't accept less than 25,000 SAR/mo.

There is a HUGE gap between my offer and the advice of my friend. Actually from 60-64K up to 80K.

Will they laugh at me for countering to such a high amount? Or will I sell myself short if I only counte to...say...70K

I am new to international wage negotion, so I am open to consider any and all advic on this subject.

Other benifits are housing, medical, tax free, etc. all good, but I will still be supporting my wife (who is in school and can't leave the states) and my 2 small children in California.

Thanks to any and all in advance. I think I have a few days to respond to the offer. I am interested to hear what you all think I should do.

CuL8R, Al-Salam is a good company. I have worked for a company in Canada that was overhauling Al-Salam engines. i;m not expert on salary, but i guess someone else will give their thoughts to this.

I suggest you look for people working for Al-Salam on LinkedIn.com and get in touch with them for your queries.

From what I can see. They have contracts with the private, and public sector. They have deeeeeep pockets. go for something that will make you get up in the morning feeling good, because it should be 30%+ more than you make in the US

Hi all!!!

Thanks for the advice. I have followed it, for the most part. I had not considered the bonuses at the beginning and the end of the contract, and my wife has decided to live with her parents temporarily while we save some money.
I think we will accept the offer, but my recruiter is working on a better one, so we will accept reguardless.
Thanks to you all. And thanks in advance for answering my other questions. IÂ’m sure I will have many.
