Good luck with your negotiations and your potential move!

Like many things, the answer to your question is 'it depends'! Some of the things to consider are:-

Does your salary include allowances (housing/schooling - if you have kids)
What kind of accommodation you go for ( [url=thenational.ae/news/uae-news/thousands-pack-up-for-big-move-to-abu-dhabi-as-deadlin )
What kind of life style you live when you get here (living it up - can be very expensive - or more frugal)
Whether your partner works of course
Lease or buy cars
What commitments you still have at home

Basically, you should be good - as long as you don't go mad on the costs!

Finally - I note you say 'partner'  - if you are not married, just be aware that it is technically illegal to live together unmarried. Many still do, but it is a risk factor and can present problems with allowances, visa, licences etc. I know a number a couples that have got married just to avoid the issues...

Hi Neil,

Really appreciate the advice and as you say whilst we're not married yet it is something we have discussed, the agent filled me in on some of the potential difficulties that not being married can cause regarding allowances etc.

That would be great for my partner to get the views of your wife as I think she was a little concerned that she might not have the same responsibilities as she does now. I'll pass on your wife's email address.

Would be interested to understand in general how you find it as you must be pretty settled now after 5 years?

I guess it took a good year to find our feet,but once you build your network of friends and you find somewhere you are happy living life gets better. The place has many frustrations, but has a lot of upside too. What kind of work are you in?
