Car exhaust law in Iceland?

Post new topic

valebig

Hi everyone,
I'm planned to move to Iceland in February 2014 and I've to buy a 4x4...Can anyone say me how is the car exhaust law in Iceland? Here in Italy a car it's good if it is an EURO 3- EURO 4...EURO 0, EURO 1, EURO 2 are forbidden.
There is a web site where I can get some information?!
Thank's a lot for our help!

Are you talking about bringing a car with you from Italy?
Or are you thinking about buying a car in Iceland?

In general Iceland follows EU law about exhaust. Registration taxes depends on the exhaust level of the vehicle.
Co2 level.
0-80gr tax is 0%
80-100grÌý tax is 10%
101-120 gr tax is 15%
121-140gr tax is 20%

If you know how much Co2 level the car exhaust it is easy to find out the registration fee. If it is an old polluting car it can be expensive. The fee can be max 65% for a car above 250gr Co2.

If you want to avoid paying the registration fees you can keep the car on your Italian plates, you are allowed to have them for a year, but I know that nothing happens if you stay longer than that.
It is easy if you arrive with the continental ferry from Denmark and tell the customs you are going to stay only for few months if they stop you to ask.
Ìý
If the car will be shipped in a container by a logistic transportation company the custom will keep a record of it.
