How long is a typical housing contract?

Post new topic

Hi,

Just a quick question from me for tonight - how long does a typical contract last? We are worried about signing a contract and things don't work out and we are left paying for a house we don't need or like.

Thank you

You normally sign a 2 year contract but either party can end it with a months notice after 1 year.

If you are worried then negotiate a shorter term contract. Also ensure you have the diplomatic clause in your contract which says if you have to leave Bahrain you can end your contract at any time with a months notice.

When taking out a contract it is advisable not to give them your CPR etc, try to do it on your passport only. That way you can tell little white lies and move on the diplomatic clause.....

If you show your CPR then you have to prove that your CPR is being revoked in order to use the diplomatic clause.

You DO NOT need a CPR or Iqama or anything else except your passport and job contract to get a lease.

I wish I had found this forum before I moved here. I made a lot of mistakes so learnt quickly.

Yeah I love gin lol but no bottle needed, we are here to try to help :-)

I forgot to mention that when renting a villa it is normal practice to pay 3 months rent in advance - you then don't pay any rent for 3 months. Weird I know as the landlord has no deposit from you.

The money is usually to help get the property back up to scratch. Villa's once empty aren't touched until someone signs a new contract and provides the landlord with a list of all the jobs they want doing - the advance rent pays for all this work.

Insist on a deep clean of the property before you move in too.
