I am messaging on behalf of a family member. He is a South African citizen and has children born in Tanzania and is currently living there.

He is considering moving back to South Africa. Are the children able to get dual citizenship and can he apply for it from Tanzania? Their mother in Tanzanian and will be moving as well.

Best to contact the relevant SA authority for information / paperwork on this matter. A quick Google search may give you an answer about the dual citizenship issue but I would think that there is a lot of paperwork involved.

As a South African citizen he should have filed the necessary documents when the children were born.聽 South Africa recognises dual citizenship but they have to know that the children exist in order to do so.

He can register their births at the embassy in Dar es Salaam.聽 The younger they are the easier it shall be.

Failing that, they can still enter on visas and complete the paperwork in South Africa.
