Moving to Thailand / Malaysia / Indonesia

Hi All,

I聮ll be moving to either Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok in July. I聮ve read a few books on the cities and have colleagues based there 聳 so I聮m not to worried.

My ex-wife (with whom I have 2 children) has told me I need to check my policies (such as life and medical) to see if they apply overseas. Does anybody know of any UK based companies that would do this for me 聳 or if it is more economical 聳 Thailand, Malaysia o Indonesian based companies that would offer this for an expatriate?

Additionally, my children ideally would be coming over for the summer holidays which should be 6-7 weeks. Would I need extended visas for them? If yes, could I obtain them from the British embassy?

No thread replies but a couple of great PM's. Thank's to those members for their help.

The main thing for me was the kids, it looks like you can apply for extended holiday visa's through the embassy and the charges are pretty reasonable. The British High Commission were really good and helpful, e-mails back inside 24 hours.

The life and medical was tricky, expatlifeassurance com was the most helpful - my current broker (manchester based) isn't 100% yet on how cover changes, but it seems pretty cheap to get covered overseas with international cover. The medical side, BUPA seem the best but the cost is high - I'll be doing more research and post my findings.

I would say tha Thai medical companies do seems a lot worse than the malays who are also head and shoulders above the indonesians. Hoping to get my location confirmed soon so I only have to deal with one lot!
