Can I get an SA passport?

I moved from SA with my family when I was 10 in '98. I have a British passport and have never had a SA passport of my own as I was young enough to just be on my mom's.

Would I be able to still apply for a SA passport while retaining my British one?

Yes, very possible. Although, it's a process that can take years. First, you need a residence permit. Kindly visit any Home Affairs office that is close to your location to make further enquiries.

Since you were born in South Africa, you will be able to gain citizenship, which actually does not need to take years.

Firstly, you should find out what Home Affairs has on you. Then, search for a few reputable immigration law (must be legal firms, not immigration agents) companies and ask their advice (usually the advice is free). From there you will know the exact procedure based on your exact situation.

Some people born in SA find that there is no record anymore at Home Affairs and this then takes years.
