5S - Five S

Post new topic

Guestposter894

me and the talkative me is back... lets try to make this post with sense (i'll try)
so my boss went to travel again without informing her gorgeous secretary (ehhhhemmm)
the traveling agency sent him an email, in which i had access of course
and only from that email i knew that he'll be away for three days....
Imagine three days without a boss... So what am i going to do?!

Problem : It's hard to pretend working when you really are not working at anything.
Solution : 5S process (i encountered this when i attended a seminar back in phil and the speaker is from Japan)

So "5S" stands for five letter S process for getting organize:
(just correct me if im wrong)

(1) Sort (Seiri) - Get rid of unnecessary documents! Just throw it away, just make sure its not important or you be in big big trouble!
(2) Straighten (Seition) - Get an iron, plug it and straighten it (joke) - this means to put everything in place. if you started a filing system make sure you follow it, coz if you dont youre just giving yourself another headache
(3) Shine (Seiso) - yeah, you get it right - get a polish and shine it - make sure everything is in its proper places after you done working on it.. lets say those paper works, once done, file it immediately or send it wherever the destination is... dont leave your table messy!
(4) Systemize (Seiketsu) - Make it a habit - make it  routine - make it a habit - make it a routine -- repeat.. yeah you got it right - always leave your workplace neat and organize. so its ready to get mess up again the next morning heheh
(5) Sustain (Shitsuke) - This one almost same with no.4 - but tougher! you need to discipline yourself! or else go repeat step one.!!
Since my boss is kinda busy and of course part of my job to make his office organize - this 5 steps are helpful!
that even he call me on weekends at the middle of the night .. like
"hey where did you put this file? i cant find it"
"boss its in the blue folder, in the box file, on the right side, near the safety box, beside the window!!!"

>>im hungry, lunch time<<

So 5s i'll keep on repeating for 3 consecutive days
Any other suggestions?

Put one more S . ..  SLEEP !

Sleep? do you know what youre saying? i mean have you read what is it all about?
Including "sleeping" at work is surely not a good idea.
anyway, thanks for reading (i guess..) and for posting  :unsure

Good tips.  I rely on a very similar system with housekeeping.  Its a lot easier now that kids are grown but back in the day I thought training them to the system was important.

I am really bored at work now.  I only have 16 days left on this contract.  Lots of lose ends to tie up but its getting more and more difficult to force myself to complete some of the more boring aspects.

yes my dear friend, sleeping in between your work for a short break can actually improve the productivity and level of concentration. One of my friend work is a japan and they have a lunch + sleeping hour. :). I wish we had that kind of work culture in middle east.

Guestposter894

true,, you can sleep in lunch hour.. but what i was pointing out in this topic is how to make oneself busy if there is nothing much to do at work.. and sleeping is not part of it.   :unsure
