Here's my blog post on the cost of living on Ometepe Island, Nicaragua.

I rent a room in a house for $225. That includes all associated costs except Internet service.

For food and hygiene products I spend $450 per month. That is everything you could buy at a grocery store in the States that you'd need day to day. ( I am a runner, so perhaps I eat more than you. )

I am living in Leon.

> accommodation prices:
  1) Before I rented a complete house with 2 bedrooms and complete furniture for 350 4 plus 50 $
      WIFI
  2) Now I am renting a complete house with 3 bedrooms, a front garden and 2 patios for 250 $,
      but without any furniture. I also had to renovate a lot - especially the not very trustworthy
      electricity installation.

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc.).
   1) open bus in town: 4 CS
   2) taxi: day 20 CS, 8-12 pm 30 CS, after midnight 40 CS;
       to the suburbs not 20, but 30 CS

> energy prices (oil, electricity): no oil; if you stay below 150 kWh/month, you pay around
   300-350 CS. Above there is a jump to 1,000 CS.
> WIFI contract over 18 months: 2 MB (they gave me 4 MB for 6 months without further costs)
   40 $/month plus a deposit of 80 $
> water: about 100-150 CS/month

> mobile phone: if you use systematically the daily promotions, you can save a lot of money,
   for ex. quadruple the 40 CS you pay

> price for a good menu in a traditional restaurant:
  1) in a comedor (various dishes, good, but very simple, frequented especially by locals and
      a few backpackers: 60-80 CS incl. a fresco (drink)

> price for a coffee or a drink:
   in a good or touristic restaurant or in a juice bar: juice 60 CS
