Here in the capital, hop on the Quito Tour Bus.  Their double-deckers take visitors to places of interest with buses once an hour following the same route, picking up folks who stopped off at particular sight or tourist venue, and transporting them on, at no  additional cost.

There are at least ten stops, including La Basilica (massive Gothic church), El Panecillo (hill topped by the Virgen statue-museum-restaurant overlooking Centro Historico), the Teleferico (snowless ski-lift), the Parque la Carolina animal enclave, QuiCentro Mall shopping and plenty more.

Hotels: We don't know your budget or your itinerary, so visit booking.com for rates and reviews.  If you arrive in Quito without a reservation and wish to avoid being overcharged, spend your first night or two at Hotel Ambassador, 9 de octubre y Colon.  It's a serviceable hotel with $30 rooms.  Nothing fancy, though, and there's no guarantee the front desk will speak English if you arrive after six.  Good security.
