Hi !

My question today is how are you, or how have you prepared for expatriation? I'm sure each one of you use or used a different way to do it and I think it will be interesting and useful if everyone talks about his own way and shares his or her experiences.

Salut !

Well - a friend of mine was told that he had got a job in Strasbourg - so he went out for three months of intensive German classes... which turned out to have been a bit of a waste of time...
As a general principal. If you are going somewhere, read up as much as you can about the place. You can't talk in a foreign language if you don't have anything to say!!

Yup! Don't forget to search the Internet for a maximum of information and talk to as many people as possible (forums like this one are helpful) - this is extremely important. Also, take some trips first to get a feel of the country and make your first contacts with the population. For the business part, make sure of the reality of your project, try a business plan, sometime it works! :D
