What shall I pack?

Post new topic

Hi,
My family is coming to live in Mauritius for a year from late October, and I've just started packing.  We have been advised to ship no more than 160 cu ft of goods (which seems masses).  We will be moving into furnished accommodation.   We know that some things are better bought there than shipped, but not all.

WeÂ’ll be preserving space by leaving all our winter coats in England.  But what should we remember to include?  Any info on how long shipping takes from the UK? (And from that, which items should come on the plane with us, as urgent and vital).   All recommendations gratefully received.
Regards
Tristram

Hi
And welcome! I have only been here one month!
I wish I would have packed more home linens, like duvet covers, towels.
Pack all your fav meds, cosmetics, sunscreen!
I wish I would have stocked up on some of my fav brands of spices ect.. Stuff you just can't get here.
Yes you can buy almost anything here if you look hard enough. Bring your comforts from home and you will be fine. I only came with 9 cases for a family of 3.
PS Don't bring a lot of heavy clothing you just won't use it it is so hot here already. I have wore pants once.
good luck, where will you be living?

Hi, thanks for that - all really helpful.  We don't yet know where we'll be living, but my wife will be working at Le Reduit, so (hopefully) somewhere close to there.

Have a safe journey!!!

HI There, we just arrived 7 weeks ago. We moved into unfurnished accommodation, so we just brought everything. If you have children, bring everything for them. Children things expensive here. Electronic items from UK work here, So if you have your favourite hairdryer/straightener and kitchen equipment then that is good to bring. Otherwise, you will be fine. You really don't need any long sleeves. We live in Tamarin / Black River and there is a great community of English speaking expats here. It is about a 20min drive from Reduit (depending on traffic). Floreal is also a nice area to live I hear. Good luck with the move.
