Question about winter/summer semesters

Post new topic

vivanova

Hi, everyone! :)  I'm planning to study in Germany the following year. However, I'm a little bit confused about how the semesters are organized. I found this:

April - September (Summer Semester)
Mid July - Mid Sept (Semester holidays)
October - March (Winter semester)
Mid Feb - Mid April (Semester holidays)
Sept - Feb (Winter semester for Universities of Applied Sciences)

I'm interested in applying for a summer semester but I'd like to know if this break from Mid July till Mid Sept applies to me, or is only for those who start in the winter. Also, does anyone know if the exams are held in the period between April and July?

Thank you!

Start/end of semester, as well as when exams take place (which are mostly during the smester break) differ from university to university.
So ask at the university you want to attend!

Normally in Technical Universities Winter semesters starts from mid October till Mid March and the deadlines are Mid July to submit your application.
Summer semester starts from April till Mid August and the deadlines to submit your documents are normally mid January.
For Fachschule and Hochschule the deadline and semester timing may vary. You can also check the deadlines on respective university website.
