eResidence accepted with shared accommodation?

Post new topic

Hello everyone!

I am planning to move to Malta next month and i'm not sure I understood all the info about e residence.  If I'll choose to live in a shared house   will it be accepted as proof of address  to obtain my eResidence  ?
Many thanks!

ricky

If you have a rental agreement ( preferably with the original lessor) you should be ok.  If you a non-EU citizen you will need a dated photocopy of the ID card of your landlord.

If you are an EU citizen you are probably ok with the rental agreement alone.

Thank you very much for your very quick reply.  I'm romanian so EU citizen.  You mean even I'll rent just a room in a shared house I can ask for a rental agreement with the original lessor? Can he say no ? Regards

ricky

Of course he can say no ! In fact , most shared appartments are not covered by rental contracts ie ...illegal !

So make sure that the shared accomodation is allowed by the owner.

The e-residence office is quite cautious now as the abuse ( like 30 guys living in one room ) is well known and not tolerated.

Surprisingly I wasn't asked for any proof of residence when filing for my eResidence in December (and I got my card 3 weeks later).

Well I was 2 weeks ago when I went to change the address on my e-residence card. The officer checked names and id of the names in the contract and took his time -)))

So typical  of Malta.

So it's all about luck and officer's mood ...

ricky

Possibly . But I would not count on it. After all the rental contract is one of the documents that are officially required. Possibly the most important - after the health cost coverage required.

All these problems are caused by fellow EU and non- EU citizens who do not care aboiut the rules. So it is better for all that we abide by the rules.

Oh, we probably didn't apply on the same category. In my case it was form A "Employed/Self Employed", and I was really surprised when I realized a proof of residence wasn't requested. It's probably different re. self sufficient.

You're perfectly right Ricky. This is the way it should be.  I definitely won't accept to rent a  place without a legal agreement. And not only for eResidency but for everyone's peace of mind. I lived for a while in UK and had a bad experience with renting a place from a  private wich was actually  a council house.
