French engineer girl looking for an expat in New York City on may 2011

Hi!
My name is 贬茅濒猫苍别.
I am an engineer student in buildings and architecture, in France.
I am 22 years old, I like, architecture, arts and museums.
I am fascinated in New-York since I am younger.
I would like to come in New-York city on May 2011 for an expatriation for 6 months or more as one year.
During these 6 months I hope to find a job, in restaurants, museums, offices, markets, library.... or anything else.
I am dynamic, and I would like to give the best of myself to find a job.
But have you any advices about how to find a job, an appartement a roomate?

After these 6 months I hope to live in USA definetely and to find a job and doing my carreer in USA with my qualification of engineer;

Hi Helen,

You better have to look for a job directly from France and as engineer.
I do not advise you to work in a restaurant or whatever in the meantime, you will lose your time.
(You are not allowed to go in USA to find a job)

You are engineer, so I am pretty sure you can find somthing with your skills in the USA.

Send as much as possible resume and cover letter, it should work.
If it doesn't .. try go in New York in holiday to meet companies and do interviews.
